“Leaks from out of the Albanese government’s Budget bunker suggests that Labor is preparing a Budget that doubles down on their failed active inflation agenda, when they should be backing Australians, their living standards, security and honest government”, said Shadow Treasurer, Tim Wilson.
"Labor's addiction to spending is driving up the cost of living today and leaving a trillion dollar plus debt bomb for my generation, and the next, to pay off", said Shadow Finance Minister, Senator Claire Chandler.
Mr Wilson and Senator Chandler’s comments come as the Coalition launches its key Budget tests:
- Restores living standards, by backing Australians and small business.
- Restores Australia's security, through domestic industry and defence.
- Restores honest government, through transparency and delivering on promises.
“After four years of Budgets for an economy Labor built for themselves, real wages have gone backward, our living standards have had the largest collapse in the developed world, and our way of life is under threat”, Mr Wilson said.
"Australians need a government that backs their efforts, and restoring living standards starts with backing Australian families and small businesses. That means controlling inflation, getting interest rates down, and making sure hard work pays off again", Mr Wilson said.
“We need a Budget for Australians, and particularly those that back themselves. The leaks from the Albanese Budget bunker suggest the heads of self-starters and small business are on the chopping block”, Mr Wilson said.
“In these uncertain economic times, Anthony Albanese and Jim Chalmers must learn from their past failures and deliver a Budget that restores Australia’s confidence” Mr Wilson said.
"Australians also need a government they can trust to keep them safe, and restoring Australia’s security starts with families, communities and small business through to industry and defence so we are not left exposed when the next shock hits", said Mr Wilson.
“Australians are tired of over-promising and under-delivering, and restoring honest government means transparency, accountability, and a government that delivers on what it promises”, said Mr Wilson.
"Labor’s four Budgets have failed, and they are not learning from their failures. Labor said their spending wouldn’t be inflationary, yet inflation has roared back. Inflation even before the current crisis is higher than every major advanced economy. Labor said they’d raise incomes, yet real wages have gone backward. Labor said they’d provide security, yet six years on from COVID Australia has been left vulnerable", said Senator Chandler.
"Young Australians are being saddled with debt that will take a lifetime to repay. Every single minute another $50,000 is being added to the interest bill", said Senator Chandler.
"Labor's big spending budgets will inevitably be funded by young Australians paying more tax, and no doubt this Budget will be the same", said Senator Chandler.
"Protecting Australians' way of life and restoring their standard of living starts with budget discipline," Senator Chandler said.
Australia needs strong economic management to restore hope, aspiration and prosperity. Only a Taylor Coalition Government will protect Australians' way of life and restore living standards.
