Fix the economy. Protect our way of life.
OUR PLAN FOR
Less Migration and More Homes
Labor has lost control of migration.
Under the Albanese Government, the numbers have been too high and the standards have been too low. Labor has admitted 1.5 million migrants in just four years. Labor’s addiction to mass migration means there aren’t enough homes for Australians. Our roads, schools, and hospitals are under strain.
OUR PLAN
A Taylor Coalition Government will:
- Cut annual net immigration to 100,000 initially – one third of the current rate, to take pressure off housing, infrastructure, and services.
- Cap net overseas migration each year below the number of new homes completed.
- Raise standards and bring in skilled migrants who meet Australia’s needs.
- Take back control of our system and put Australian values first.
- Build more homes by funding infrastructure, reducing building costs and axing Labor’s taxes on housing.
OUR PRIORITY
CUT MIGRATION AND RAISE STANDARDS
While migration numbers have surged, standards have fallen.
Since Labor was elected, it has brought in around 1.5 million more people to Australia. That’s about the population of Adelaide.
There has been a surge of almost 1 million more temporary visa holders.
One in ten people in Australia is now on a temporary visa. This is unsustainable.
Meanwhile, there aren’t enough homes for Australians and our roads, schools, and hospitals are under strain.
- Under Labor, the housing shortfall is now 400,000 – roughly the population of Canberra.
Australia welcomes overseas students to study, not to stay permanently. Yet around half are still here ten years after starting their studies.
A Coalition Government will overhaul our skilled migration program, bringing in the people with the skills that businesses need.
- A skilled visa holder pays, on average, more than three times the tax of a Temporary Graduate Visa holder.
OUR SOLUTION
The Coalition will significantly cut migration numbers, while raising standards.
A Taylor Coalition Government will:
- Cut net overseas migration to 100,000 a year for two years, before levelling out at around 160,000 in year four.
- Cap net overseas migration each year below the number of new homes completed.
- Reduce temporary visa holders by around 650,000 over four years, excluding visitors and New Zealanders. Keep the permanent migration program capped at 185,000 places a year.
- Reduce annual international student commencements by 55,000 compared with Labor’s current setting. Abolish Temporary Graduate Visas and restrict most students from bringing family members. Keep post-study transitional visas for PhD students, those studying health or education, and those studying at regional universities. These measures are expected to cut the share of international students in higher education to below 25%.
- Protect regional migration programs that support agriculture, health, tourism and hospitality.
- Prioritise higher-skilled migrants who better meet Australia’s needs, including skilled partners and employer-sponsored applicants.
- Bring in up to 5,000 more highly skilled workers each year through the Specialist Skills stream. Create 15,000 Skilled Project Visas a year for major projects, where labour supply bottlenecks exist.
- Cut the humanitarian intake to 10,000 places a year, with flexibility to respond to emerging needs.
Our plan to cut numbers and improve the skills mix will be budget neutral.

OUR PRIORITY
TAKE BACK CONTROL AND PUT AUSTRALIAN VALUES FIRST
Labor has lost control of migration.
Labor has brought in too many people who don’t believe in Australian values and seek to undermine our country.
They have also presided over an explosion in the number of unlawful non-citizens – people living in Australia after their visas have been refused.
- Around 77,000 unlawful non-citizens are estimated to be living in Australia.
The system has become too easy to game, and too easy to roll from one visa to another.
Living in Australia is a privilege, not a right. Upholding Australian values is non-negotiable.
Our message is clear: if you respect our laws, freedoms and democracy, you are welcome. If you reject them, you will not stay.
We will restore integrity and confidence in our migration system to protect our way of life.
OUR PLAN
The Coalition will take back control of our migration system.
We will make sure temporary visas are genuinely temporary.
We will put Australian values first, shutting the door to radicals and people who attempt to game our system.
A Taylor Coalition Government will:
- Make temporary visas temporary. Require people applying for a second or later temporary visa to apply from outside Australia. Second- and third-year Working Holiday Makers can still apply here. This will reduce visa hopping and virtually eliminate bridging visas.
- Put Australian values first. Make compliance with the Australian Values Statement a binding condition for getting and keeping a visa. Make breaches grounds for failing the Character Test and being booted out of the country.
- Shut the door to migration system abuse. Introduce a Safe Country List to fast-track refusal of unfounded protection claims. Restore Temporary Protection Visas. Fund law enforcement to deport people with no right to be here.
- Stop people gaming the system. Require onshore protection visa applicants to apply within 30 days. Remove merits review for adverse character decisions, temporary visa refusals and offshore applicants.
- Enforce student visa conditions. Link each student visa to the enrolling institution. Task Home Affairs to identify and curtail students working more hours than their visa allows, including through the gig economy or use of Australian Business Numbers.
- Show a red light to radicals. Establish an Enhanced Screening Coordination Centre with standard social media vetting. Bring together ASIO, AFP and Australian Border Force capabilities. Enable real-time, risk-based visa vetting to block high-risk individuals before they travel.
OUR PRIORITY
BUILD MORE HOMES
Australia needs more homes.
Labor has failed on housing supply, spending $80 billion to build 30,000 fewer homes a year than under the Coalition.
The Albanese Government has made it harder and more expensive to build new homes.
Higher taxes on tradies, thousands of pages of new regulations, and a great big new government bureaucracy have turned the Australian dream of home ownership into a nightmare.
- Under Labor, Australia is building around 170,000 homes a year, compared with around 200,000 homes a year under the Coalition.
We want Australia to be the best place in the world to live and raise a family.
The Coalition will make it cheaper and easier to build new homes by axing Labor’s toxic taxes on families and tradies, slashing red and green tape, and getting rid of Labor’s failed housing bureaucracy.
OUR PLAN
A Taylor Coalition Government will:
- Establish a $5 billion Housing Infrastructure Fund to help unlock up to 400,000 new homes, including in regional Australia, by funding essential last-mile infrastructure such as water, sewerage, power and access roads.
- Reserve the First Home Buyers 5% Deposit Scheme for Australian citizens only.
- Simplify the National Construction Code, while preserving core safety standards, to cut the cost of building a new home by up to $70,000.
- Axe Labor’s ineffective Housing Australia Future Fund, as well as their Build-to-Rent tax breaks for multinationals.
- Axe Labor’s housing taxes – increasing the number of homes by 35,000.
