Angus Taylor

Leader of the Opposition, Member for Hume

Our country needs change. Only the Coalition has the strong leadership, strong team, and strong plan to restore Australians’ standard of living and protect our way of life.

About Angus

Angus grew up on his family farm in the southern NSW town of Nimmitabel, before completing a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Sydney, and going on to earn a Rhodes Scholarship to study economics at Oxford University.

Before entering Parliament he worked as a management consultant, advising Australian and global organisations across the energy, resources, agriculture and infrastructure sectors, helping them make smarter, long-term decisions.

In 1997, Angus married his wife Louise and since then has raised their four children in Goulburn, in regional NSW.

In 2013, he was elected to Parliament as the Member for Hume, from day one, he has focused on regional growth, strong local economies, and backing families, farmers and small businesses across the electorate.

From 2016 to 2022 Angus served as a minister across a number of portfolios, including as Minister for Law Enforcement and Cybersecurity, before spending the majority of his time as a minister within the Energy and Emissions Reduction portfolio.

OUR PLAN

Our vision is for Australia to be a country where anyone, no matter their background, dreams big and can get ahead through hard work.

The Albanese Government has put Australia into a state of decline.

Our country needs change. Only the Coalition has the strong leadership, strong team, and strong plan to restore Australians’ standard of living and protect our way of life.

Shana Tova to all those celebrating Rosh Hashanah!
As we mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, we remember the almost 3,000 people killed including the 10 Australians, we think of their families, and we face the fact that Islamist extremism remains a significant threat.

My commitment to Australians is to keep out, and root out Islamist extremism.

We will protect our way of life.
Birth, life and death taxes. There’s nothing this Treasurer won’t tax.

Today we uncovered Labor’s latest tax trap: adding a newborn to a trust structure could trigger a 47% tax on its entire income.

That’s big for small and family businesses.

Each one of Labor’s new taxes is toxic — and we’ll scrap the lot.
They served our country but Labor is capping their healthcare. Our veterans deserve better. We’ll scrap the cap.
Congratulations to Narelle Zanker on being named Agrifuture’s 2026 Rural Woman of the Year!

Narelle has combined her two passions - farming and education - to create Dairy Adventures, opening up her family’s working dairy farm near Mannum and giving thousands of Australians the chance to see where their food comes from.

From bottle-feeding calves to learning about dairy farming, animal care and food production, Narelle is doing an incredible job of bringing the city and country closer together.

It’s a fantastic recognition of an inspiring South Australian, a brilliant family business and the women who are helping shape the future of Australian agriculture.
A Labor Premier is now telling the Prime Minister that his tobacco tax isn’t working. If Chris Minns gets it, why doesn’t the Prime Minister?
Protect our children. Smash the gangs. Take back control.
We need to take back control from the gangs and protect our children.
