Ted O'Brien was elected to the seat of Fairfax in 2016. Ted has over 20 years’ experience in business both in Australia and overseas. He has a Masters of Economics and Business and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Public Directors. He is a member of the Coalition’s Economics and Finance Committee and Chairman of the Trade Sub-committee under the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade. In this role, Ted led an inquiry into how Australia’s small and medium sized businesses can be supported in leveraging free trade agreements to pursue export opportunities. He is also on three Parliamentary Committees including Infrastructure, Transport and Cities; Innovation, Science and Resources; and Indigenous Affairs. Ted is focussed on building congestion busting infrastructure for the Sunshine Coast to support strong and sensible economic growth and help leverage the region’s strengthens in tourism and innovation. In the two years since his election he has helped secure more than $3 billion for the Bruce Highway, a $181 million concessional loan for the expansion of the Sunshine Coast Airport and $390 million to duplicate and upgrade rail infrastructure between Beerburrum and Nambour. Ted is passionate about civil society and helping individuals and communities realise their potential by taking control of their own future.
