Stop Labor’s Attack on Private Health Cover
The Albanese Government is stripping back the private health insurance rebate for Australians aged 65 and over.
More than three million older Australians now face premium increases of up to $807 more per year (for singles) or up to $1,614 more per year (for a couple), because of Labor’s changes.
This will leave many with a difficult choice – to cut spending on other essentials, downgrade their cover, or drop it altogether.
If people drop private health insurance, it puts more pressure on the public system.
As people get older, they are more likely to need health care. Private health insurance helps reduce pressure on the public system. That’s why older Australians currently get a slightly higher rebate.
National Seniors Australia has found that as many as 45 per cent of people relying on the Age Pension as their sole income source hold private health insurance.
It is simply unfair for Labor to punish older Australians, who have worked hard and saved to pay for private health insurance – in many cases for their entire working life.
Help us stand up for choice and for older Australians.
