Roxon’s priorities all wrong

“Australians need an Attorney-General who is more interested in crusading against organised criminals than against tobacco companies,” Shadow Attorney-General, Senator George Brandis said today.
At her first press conference as Attorney-General designate yesterday, Nicola Roxon said that her priorities would be pursuing tobacco companies in the High Court and further tightening anti-discrimination law.
“The first thoughts of a newly appointed minister are the most revealing because they tell you what her true priorities are,” Senator Brandis said.
“As Health Minister Ms Roxon earned a reputation as an obsessive social engineer and a high priestess of political correctness. The Attorney-General needs to be a person who places law enforcement, national security and the administration of justice ahead of pet ideological causes.”
“One of the reasons Robert McClelland was a relatively successful Attorney-General is because he understood that. Unfortunately, one of the few ministers in the Gillard Government who knew what he was doing has been dumped in favour of someone who shares the Prime Minister’s passion for political correctness.
“The new Attorney-General would have made a stronger start if she had transnational criminals, people smugglers, and terrorists squarely in her sights.”
