Gillard must condemn HSU no confidence motion against whistleblower
16/11/11
Yesterday at its annual conference HSU East passed a no confidence motion against National Secretary Kathy Jackson.
Senator Ronaldson said, “Ms Jackson’s crime was reporting suspected illegal activity by Labor MP Craig Thomson and former National President of the Labor Party, Michael Williamson to the police.
“If any Australian citizen believes they have information which shows that a crime has been committed they should feel free to report the matter to the police, without having to face political intimidation.
“Prime Minister Gillard stands by while the person who reported the matter to the police is publicly humiliated in a show of strength by union bosses with strong links to Sussex Street.
“The Prime Minister must immediately condemn the no confidence motion against Kathy Jackson, and reaffirm her support for Ms Jackson’s right to assist police in their criminal investigations into Craig Thomson and Michael Williamson.
“The Prime Minister’s continued silence on this issue shows that she is complicit in the faceless men’s efforts to punish Ms Jackson for attempting to represent her union’s membership by assisting the police.”
