Congratulations to Australia's 12th Nobel Prize Winner

I extend my warmest congratulations to Australian Astrophysicist Professor Brian Schmidt for last night being awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics.

Professor Schmidt has added to Australia’s rich contribution to the global scientific community becoming the 11^th Australian Nobel Prize winner in the field of science and medicine and 12^th overall.

Working in tandem with a research facility in California, Professor Schmidt has identified proof to support the theory of acceleration to the expansion of the universe.

Professor Schmidt conducts the bulk of his research in Canberra at the Australian National University and Mount Stromlo Observatory.

All Australians should be proud of Professor Schmidt’s achievements and the world class universities and astronomical institutions that we are fortunate enough to have on our shores.
