  • Death of an Australian soldier

    22/08/11

The death of an Australian soldier killed in action in Afghanistan this morning is another reminder of the dangers of the Afghanistan mission and of the bravery of Australian Defence Force personnel.

The soldier was on patrol with elements of the Afghan National Army north-east of Tarin Kot and is believed to have been killed by a detonated IED.

The soldier was from the Townsville based 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, and had previously served in East Timor.

He is the 29th Australian soldier to have been killed in action in Afghanistan.

Australians will share the grief of his family and comrades.

On behalf of the Coalition, I extend my condolences to his friends and loved ones.
