Prime Minister’s cynicism leaves GG hanging out to dry

It was revealed in Senate Estimates this afternoon that the Prime Minister left the Governor-General hanging out to dry after Ms Gillard abandoned her plans to attend the World Cup host nation announcement in Zurich at the 11th hour.
“The Governor-General, at the last minute, was asked to represent the Prime Minister in Zurich having been told by the Prime Minister’s office that Australia’s bid was likely to be successful!”, Senator Ronaldson said.
“On the back of Australia’s single vote it is clear that the Governor-General was sent out, and then hung out to dry. The Prime Minister had clearly been told that our bid was, in fact, in dire strife, hence Ms Gillard’s decision not to go.
“The Prime Minister didn’t want to be there for the bad news and, cynically, sent the Governor-General to shoulder the disappointment.
“A Prime Minister should share the pain, and the glory. But this Prime Minister is so utterly driven by appearances that she was prepared to send our Head of State to hear bad news. Bad news that the Prime Minister knew was coming.
