Gillard’s NBN Pipedream Exposed
17/08/10
In an embarrassing performance today Julia Gillard was unable to say how many homes would be connected to Labor's NBN white elephant over the next three years or what it would cost families to use it.
This further demonstrates the high risk associated with the $43 billion project, which will no doubt blow out by billions and the slap dash way in which it was cobbled together.
No business plan, no cost benefit analysis and Julia Gillard has no idea about the fundamental details behind this massive con job.
All she could offer were more hollow slogans, the network will be "superfast" she offered and that's it.
The truth is, not even NBN Co knows how many households will be connected in the first release, due for completion in 2011. They have five sites, with approximately 12200 connections anticipated. Townsville, where Julia Gillard visited today, is expected to see 3100 connections. The information was on the NBN Co website.
Labor’s NBN is a dog’s breakfast and considering the scale of Labor's planned reckless spend, this proposal should be immediately submitted to the Treasury for full and thorough costing.
By contrast the Coalition has a practical, affordable and realistic proposal to enhance broadband services across the country.
