The Morrison Government will allocate $4 million of Round 5 of the Safer Communities Fund specifically to community safety and security projects in the Northern Territory.

Small businesses in the Top End are facing a crime epidemic. The latest data shows that in the year ending February 2019, commercial break-ins are up 17.4 per cent across the Territory. Home break-ins are up 22.5 per cent in the same period.

The Gunner Labor Government is paralysed by economic mismanagement and focussing on itself rather than crime and protecting small businesses and people’s homes. Their inaction is costing Territorians millions of dollars in repairs and clean up, replacement of stock and goods, and increases in insurance premiums.

The Morrison Government will not leave the small businesses and people of the Territory at risk. The Coalition’s Safer Communities Fund has a long history of supporting local councils and community organisations to address crime and anti-social behaviour by undertaking crime prevention and security infrastructure projects.

By allocating at least $4 million from the next round of the Safer Communities Fund, which has been fully funded in our Budget, the Morrison Government will ensure that the communities of the Territory can invest in initiatives, such as installing CCTV cameras, bollards, security systems and security lighting, to help protect them from out of control criminal activity, which the Gunner Labor Government seems willing to allow to flourish.

Only the Morrison Government can be trusted to keep our small businesses and communities safe, particularly in the Top End.
