Sussan Ley
Leader of the Opposition, Member for Farrer
“We will respect, reflect and represent modern Australia”
About Sussan
Sussan brings a depth of professional and life experience to the role.
Sussan migrated to Australia when she was thirteen years old. She has always felt grateful for the opportunities provided by this country.
She has worked as a cleaner, waitress and short order cook in shearing sheds, where she learned the value of a hard day’s work.
In her thirties, while raising young children, Sussan earned three degrees, including master’s degrees in accounting and tax law.
Sussan pursued her dream of flying and became an aerial stock mustering pilot.
She raised three children on a family farm during tough years, characterised by high interest rates and the wool floor price collapse.
After holding a senior position at the Australian Tax Office, Sussan entered parliament as the Member for Farrer in 2001.
Sussan’s experience includes serving in the Health, Aged Care, Environment, Education and Regional Development portfolios in government.
She was Deputy Liberal Leader between 2022 and 2025. Sussan’s pathway into politics came through identifying with the Liberal values of hard work, effort, reward and opportunity.
She is determined to build a future where young Australians can realise their dreams and where we build and reward aspiration.

Every Australian family knows someone touched by prostate cancer, and every story is a reminder of why awareness and early detection matter.
At today’s @pcfa_oz Big Aussie Barbie, we came together across party lines to raise awareness and take action on prostate cancer, a disease that will affect one in five Australian men in their lifetime and claim nearly 4,000 lives this year.
It was an honour to join colleagues and advocates to support the incredible work of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and to thank the doctors, specialists and nurses who give hope to so many families.
And to the women who keep reminding the men they love to get to the doctor and get tested, keep doing it. Don’t step back.
When it comes to prostate cancer, early detection saves lives.
What a moment for Australian racing!
Congratulations to Jamie Melham and Half Yours on an incredible Melbourne Cup win today. Jamie has made history as the first woman ever to claim the Caulfield–Melbourne Cup double.
She follows in the footsteps of Michelle Payne, who became the first woman to win the Melbourne Cup exactly ten years ago.
Labor has killed a Christmas rate cut millions of Australians were hoping for.
Today’s decision by the RBA to keep rates on hold is another reminder that Labor’s cost-of-living crisis is nowhere near over.
No rate cut, no relief, and Australians are still paying more for everything – electricity up 40%, insurance up 37% and food up 15%.
Everyday Australians are footing the bill for Labor’s spending spree in their tax returns, electricity bills, mortgage statements and their growing difficulty in finding a job.
For 38 years, the @kmartaus Wishing Tree Appeal has helped bring hope and happiness to families across Australia, delivering more than 14 million gifts through the incredible partnership between Kmart and @salvosau.
It was wonderful to join the Prime Minister, colleagues, Kmart and the Salvos at Parliament House to launch this year’s appeal and to place our own gifts under the tree, including a LEGO City Emergency Air Ambulance Airplane for kids dreaming to take to the skies one day.
At a time when so many families are doing it tough with the rising cost of living, this appeal is a reminder of the difference that kindness and generosity can make.
A heartfelt thank you to Kmart and the Salvos for everything you do, not just at Christmas but every day of the year.
Your cost of living keeps climbing because Labor can’t get inflation under control.
Government spending is running at more than four times the rate of the economy – the highest level outside of a recession in nearly 40 years.
This reckless spending is keeping inflation higher for longer, while Australians pay $50,000 every minute in interest on Labor’s trillion dollar debt.
Because of Labor’s economic vandalism, households are paying 15% more for food, 19% more for housing and nearly 40% more for electricity.
When Labor spends, you pay.
It was a pleasure to join Senator Scarr and so many members of Melbourne’s vibrant Greek-Australian community at the Oakleigh Glendi, now in its tenth year.
This incredible celebration of Greek food, music and culture has become one of Victoria’s great community events, showcasing the generosity, spirit and family values that make our multicultural nation so strong.
The Oakleigh Glendi corresponds with Oxi Day, when we commemorate the courage of Greece in standing-up to fascism and rejecting Mussolini’s ultimatums during WWII.
The Greek community has made an extraordinary contribution to Australia’s story, through business, education, the arts and public life, and the Coalition will always stand proudly with communities that work hard, give back and enrich the life of our country.
Congratulations to the organisers, volunteers and local leaders who make the Oakleigh Glendi such a success every year.
The uncertainty facing the Tomago Smelter is being felt across the Hunter, especially in the workshops and small businesses that rely on it.
At Cougar Mining, I heard how the smelter’s future affects local jobs, families, and the wider community.
This was my 14th visit to the Hunter in two years, and the message is clear. Locals want affordable, reliable energy so they can keep people in work and doors open.
The Coalition will always back the workers, families, and small businesses who make Australia strong.
Anthony Albanese has been promising a “Future Made in Australia” for almost 4 years.
Nine months ago, Anthony Albanese stood at Tomago and said “this is what Future Made in Australia looks like”.
Today, because of his failing energy policies, Australia’s biggest aluminium smelter is facing closure.
The Tomago Smelter underpins thousands of jobs across the Hunter and produces nearly half of Australia’s aluminium.
That is all on the brink because Labor’s energy policies have driven prices through the roof.
When energy becomes unaffordable, everything becomes unaffordable.
Stronger partnerships between nations are built by their people forging closer bonds – especially in business.
At yesterday’s Australia China Business Council event in Canberra, I spoke about the farmers, miners, entrepreneurs, students and families whose efforts continue to make our trade relationship one of the most important and exciting in the world.
When Australians and Chinese come together to seize opportunities together, we do not just exchange goods, we build friendships, share knowledge and strengthen our communities.
The future of our relationship will depend upon these people-to-people links, ensuring that the Australia-China trading relationship remains a partnership of trust, innovation and opportunity for generations to come.

Small businesses are the backbone of our local communities and a cornerstone of our economy. They embody the Liberal values of reward for effort, aspiration, and enterprise. When they succeed, they create jobs, strengthen communities, and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Australians are paying the price for Labor’s cost-of-living crisis.
Since Labor was elected:
🍞 Food up 15%
🩺 Health up 15%
🛡️ Insurance up 37%
⚡ Power bills up nearly 40%
Labor’s reckless spending is keeping inflation higher for longer, forcing mortgage holders to pay an extra $1,800 a month after 12 rate rises and only 3 cuts.
When Labor spends, you pay.
