$10.5 million for netball in Deakin

A re-elected Turnbull Coalition Government will drive jobs and growth by committing $10.5 million towards a new indoor regional netball centre in Deakin.

Our commitment will deliver a purpose built netball facility which will allow netball games and training all year round, in all weather conditions.

The netball centre will create a hub for women’s sport whilst greatly benefitting local netball clubs from Maroondah, Knox, Yarra Ranges and Whitehorse.

This investment is meeting the needs of the growing netball community, with participation rising significantly over the past five years. There are currently 3,600 registered netballers in the area.

The facility will be home to the Melbourne East Netball Association and Ariels Victorian Churches Netball Association.

By giving netball a home, as well as an operational and training hub, the sport is able to expand and the region will benefit from local job creation and economic growth.

Importantly the commitment will encourage more female participation in sport. The Coalition is committed to seeing more girls actively involved in sport, especially into their teenage and adult years, but a lack of local facilities has often been a barrier to participation.

A re-elected Turnbull Government and the Member for Deakin Michael Sukkar MP will work with the City of Maroondah and the local community to deliver this project.

By providing community infrastructure we are improving lifestyles, building stronger communities and delivering jobs and growth.
