Mon, 18th May 2009School cancelled to make way for Rudd ego trip
The Hon Christopher Pyne MP
Shadow Minister for Education, Apprenticeships and Training
Manager of Opposition Business in the House
Year 9 and 10 students at the Emerald Secondary School have been told not to attend school tomorrow so that Kevin Rudd can hold a community cabinet meeting, Christopher Pyne, Shadow Education Minister said today.
"This is a pure ego trip for Kevin Rudd. The Rudd Government’s community cabinet meetings are a political campaigning exercise at the taxpayer’s expense,” Mr Pyne said.
“They are reported to be costing $300,000 each. So far Mr Rudd has racked up a bill of around $2,000,000,” he said.
“And now school has to be cancelled at the Emerald Secondary School to make way for Mr Rudd’s security screening and preparations.
“A Government promising an education revolution might start by considering an alternative venue. It is astonishing how quickly the Rudd Government has lost touch,” Mr Pyne said.
