Solar dawn becomes solar sunset

The Government’s Solar Flagship program has been confirmed as another Labor Government failure with the collapse of the Solar Dawn project in south-west Queensland.

“Just days after the release of the Energy White Paper, the Gillard Government’s flawed energy policy platform has again been exposed, with the collapse of a major plank of the Government’s green energy credentials,” Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources Ian Macfarlane said.

“The announcement that the Australian Renewable Energy Agency has pulled funding for the 250 MW Solar Dawn project in Queensland is yet more proof that the Gillard Government is all smoke and mirrors when it comes to a comprehensive energy strategy.

“It’s another failure from a Government that has left a black hole for the Australian energy sector for five years, with no action on major issues like electricity prices and energy security.  All the while this Government is making energy investment more difficult due to the introduction of a Carbon Tax and mining tax, and has only last week released an Energy White Paper that is three years overdue.

“The decision to pull the plug on the Solar Dawn project further reinforces the serious questions about the Government’s ability to plan and deliver a long-term energy and resources strategy.”

“Solar Dawn has become a solar sunset under this Government.  It promises a lot but fails to deliver, whether it be pink batts, green loans, clash for clunkers or the Citizens’ Assembly,” Shadow Minister for Climate Action, Environment and Heritage, Greg Hunt, said.

“It just adds to the list of bungles from this Government and highlights the risk the Government is taking with taxpayers’ money.  It further justifies the Coalition’s decision to oppose the $10 billion Clean Energy Finance Corporation which is putting further taxpayers’ funds at risk.”
