Good Ad. Im not sure that the wink Julia gives at the end doesnt send the wrong sort of message (like she is on top or something).
Wishing you all the best with it!

    • Ideas Avatar
    • Graeme 30/07/10 01:08 PM

I'd be happier to see something visionary rather than just negative comments - e.g. something about a National Water Plan.
On another point, why not oppose queue jumpers rather than ALL asylum seekers - target swinging voters rather than people who will vote for you any way!

    • Ideas Avatar
    • Grahame 30/07/10 01:09 PM

Win or not Tony Abbott is doing a great job. This add is a bit of fun and will please Liberal votes not sure how it will play with the undecided.

Keep hammering away at debt, the economy, Labor stuff ups and the lack of cohesion in the Labor Party these themes are finding their mark.

    • studying 30/07/10 01:09 PM

love it. what are you looking at to push how bad mark latham was - he is being used in this campaign and that isn't good. hope you might reshow some of the ads you have used this campaign so voters don't remember your messages.

    • Nick 30/07/10 01:10 PM

Fantastic! I think the liberal party certainly have to remind the Australian people how sneeky the ALP really is behind closed doors. Wonder if Gillard will get the same "chop" when she looses the eletion?

    • Ideas Avatar
    • Jennie 30/07/10 01:10 PM

The last lemon message did the job, hopefully this will also put the squeeze on the people to think about things completely.

    • Ideas Avatar
    • Gary FitzGerald 30/07/10 01:11 PM

This will certainly make sure the election is lost by less votes but it is not a vote changer.

We will not win this election unless we take some perceived risks and show some leadership.

    • Shayne Cooper 30/07/10 01:11 PM

Thought it was a bit silly actually, and I don't know whether it will do any favours. Needs some substance. Why don't you have a slideshow of all the graphs sent in the newsletters this year, i.e. "Friday Facts" such as Debt, GP Super Clinics, Net Interest Payments, etc.

Love it, a great follow on.

Not bad, it reinforces the message from the first Lemon ad. However, I would like to see you seriously consider the doing a positive ad for Tony Abbott like the brilliant one shown on the Gruen Nation this week.

Great....and oh so simple, and to the point

    • Ideas Avatar
    • AJ 30/07/10 01:23 PM

You can see more of the labor lemons in this ad than we do in the actual campaign. Where is Garrett for example??

    • Ideas Avatar
    • Brian Dirou 30/07/10 01:24 PM

Methinks the electorate at large is tired of all the gimmickry and wants to hear firm policy statements with only well-directed near-term spending promises to ease problems. Futuristic commitments to outlays beyond an electoral term will not resonate and it seems more likely than not that government revenue might stagnate if not decline. Best to just stick to simple policy commitments that all age groups can grasp.

I would love to see more advertising during peak periods when swinging voters such as young people are watching, showing the blunders committed by Labor since they came to office (Pink bats, school halls, illigal boat people, etc.). Why don't we hear anything from Peter Garrett?
Swinging voters are the ones that need to hear the truth.

Yes a Great Ad. But Lets also Put out the 'Positive' Policies in a way that leaves nothing to doubt about what the Liberal Party will do when elected.

I would personally like too see a much greater emphasis on just how Liberal policy on Media and Broad Band is going to supersede and IMPROVE Labors proposed National Broadband Network because right now it sounds like its an inferior product and will leave people with the same ol same ol problems, especially those in the Bush!

Totally agree with Graeme.. .below. The wink is not giving the right impression, it says.....dont worry I am in control. Get rid of the wink.

Why are we fighting defensively......we need to attack with new and better policies. We surely have education and health policies, especially health Tony needs to advertise broadly his health policies,

Good Ad. We are doing well so far in the campaign.Even the lemons themselves are leaking their bitter lemon juice over one another.
We're not home yet. Couple of weeks to go,but we're in with a great shot.
Let's come to the finish line well in front.

Good ad... but can you eliminate Julia's Wink?

It looks like she's happy to see him. She should not have a smile at the beginning or at the end.

Be better to have her snearing at Kevin O'Lemon especially now because of his leaking/smearing campaign. She could look either hateful or helpless or worried.

    • Ken Taylor. 30/07/10 01:58 PM

Yep it is a fun video. But I think you need one that hits the worker who is a swinging voter.
Some thing along the lines of how He / She has just been employed after losing their job installing pink bats for Joe Blow who now has a factory of Pink Bats and no income. They may have just got a job installing optic-cable or working in a mine which hasn't gone under with excessive tax's.
How about some young people getting apprenticeships cooking Meals on Wheels and being proud of it? Or then there is the Questioning of the multitude of "What is the cost for building a family Home against the cost of building a school hall?"
Get away from the personnel attacks and focus on the stuffed up policies and waist.
"What was the 20 / 20 Conference held for and what ha come out of it?" Ask that and see how many know. My Father-in-Law is a die-ed in the wool Labour man, unionist and all. and he couldn't answer the last one.

I agree show you are not opposed to refugees just queue jumpers that the boat people are!!. You are not opposed to them seeking asylum here just that we choose if they are actual refugees or not, they do not arrive by boat and say refugees.

At the NSW By election in Penrith there was a Labor party, a Liberal Party, a greens party and a Kristina Keneally party - Well there must have been as there was a huge poster of her there - I am sick and tired of it there is no such thing as the Rudd Part or the Gillard party or Abbott Party - Labor & Liberal are the only parties You did not vote for Rudd you voted for Labor and even though he is gone it is the same bloody party - unfortunatley there are a lot of dumb people out there that vote for Rudd or Gillard and ignore the fact nothing has changed it is the same people that have stuffed up that run australia it is Labor just the poster boy/girl have changed.......

    • Ideas Avatar
    • vivienne 30/07/10 02:25 PM

    • Ideas Avatar
    • Ann Bradley 30/07/10 02:27 PM

Great video, but would like to see more of Tony talking plainly about the stuff-ups Labor made under the "Gang of 4" and that he ask Labor to explain where the current situation lies with regard to these major taxpayer money blowouts; eg. what is happening with the inspections of ceilings, what is the Labor Govt going to do to assist these 4 families of the 4 men who lost their lives? What is the current overrun of monies outlaid in the BER scheme? With all the rubbish they are getting over on their ads and news items it seems they are getting away with all of this wastage of OUR money. Even I, a true Lib believer, am starting to forget their wastage they now seem soooo cool under Miss Industrial Lawyer Julia's giggle and spot on Labor messages lately. I am concerned many swinging voters will go for Labor because they too are forgetting the dreadful management under Labor.

    • Ideas Avatar
    • Brian 30/07/10 02:28 PM

I don't mind the ad, one lemon is like the next, however it comes across as a bit of a re-hash of ads already commisioned when Rudd led. I believe the nation deserves to be led by a party with a long term vision and positive messages. I hope the Coalition PR key messages and themes will become more positive.

    • Ideas Avatar
    • Ann Bradley 30/07/10 02:31 PM

Oh and by the way, this National Broadband Network (NBN) just what extra costs is this going to involve the consumer. Currently I have ADSL and have a mg deal - will it mean we can still continue with our negotiated deals or MUST we hook up to the NBN fibre cable and if so, HOW MUCH WILL IT COST EACH OF US.

It gets the message across that it is the same people in power; just a different captain.

I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

Lemons are not for my cup of tea. Clean and statesman-man like is what we need - worthy of trust. Mental health needs to be faced at K-2 level in schools. More teacher's aides and special education teachers and school psychs(with mandatory confidentiality upheld) rather than having sad background kids put in the 'planning room' at every opportunity to overcome behaviour problems.

People hate being stung by politicians. The back pocket is todays holy grail, remind the electorate of how successful a Liberal Party is at managing the books. Concentrate on the already huge rises in services including local council rates. All those out of employment for whatever reason are in struggle street and want to hear a 'what's in it for me message'.

I particularly like the idea posted by :"Graeme 30/07/10 01:08 PM " when he suggested "why not oppose queue jumpers rather than ALL asylum seekers -" That would shows that the Coalition are empathising with those refugees who have been waiting in camps so long because they do not have the money to fund ILLEGAL activities such as paying smugglers.

Fun video, I do not think it is strong enough to get the message across. Get in some comment about trusting the Liberal? National Party. How about repeating John Howard not Kevin Rudd saved Australia from suffering the international financial crisis. The international financial system seems to be slowing, how will Labor cope without the Howard surplus and $120Million a day payments

    • Ideas Avatar
    • Glenn 30/07/10 03:32 PM

You need to show how the Liberals will improve things for the electorate. Address the issues affecting us all. Such as high utility charges and cost of living, housing prices and our complicated taxation system. This is what the average voter is concerned about.

all very humourous but I'm a bit sick of the 'name calling' tactics so far. i would hope that
the Libs could be a bit more forthright with good policy that will lead to a
win. name calling and back biting dont go down well with me.

Labor have done so much damage to themselves and bungled so much at the tax payers cost, highlight it and get on with demonstrating good policy with vision for the future to us , that will be of benifit to Australia and the people who live in it.

      Tony

They are battering you to death with the Work Places campaign.

You need to break away from the legacy of the Howard mistakes.

You need to tell the electorate that Howards "Work Places" was a disaster, that it was really crap legislation. The workers out there already know this. Doing this will improve you credibilty with the swinging voters. It will also offside the Labour strategists and send them in to a panic.

      Be Bold!

Now, following up on this one, we need advts that are visionary such as trees, farms, mines, growing from squashed lemons, coupled with cash flow symbols towards, growing small industries, more jobs, stronger welfare etc. I'm sure you get the picture!! We do. We need the opposition to get it too!

Good, but not great. It makes a point about Labor being untrustworthy.
Saw a great add on the Gruen transfer they made on Tony Abbott to soften him and humanise him. maybe you should get a hold of it.
Otherwise keep pounding away and make sure they are constantly receiving airtime on TV as I can say that I have not seen that many adds running

    • Ideas Avatar

" rather than having sad background kids put in the 'planning room' at every opportunity to overcome behaviour problems. "
A lot of schools now have chaplains on staff who help one on one as support staff for problem children (they dont teach the old RI in schools stuff) they are support for the whole school but mainly for the problem children. But the lemon with the hatchet it seems will give them the hatchet as well and then the schools will be without a very important support staff member, she does not seem to approve of chaplains in state schools. but the schools and the children will be the poorer for it, not her ,she doesnt have a problem child unless you can count the next to hold the hatchet, Swan one.

    • Barbara Oehm 30/07/10 08:37 PM

I agree with Grahame 30/7/10 (01:09pm) Tony is doing a great job, and keep hammering away at the debt Labor has stacked up, and the MESS they've made in the last three years. Everything they have touched on has failed - grocery watch, fuel watch, Murray Darling, pink bats, school debacle (Julia's own little project) , illegal immigrants (another boat this week) and Copenhagen was nothing more than a BIG waste of money, - just absolute incompetence. They are a collective disaster!!!
Keep showing the changing faces ad (Gillard, Swan and Garrett) and keep reminding everyone that the country was run by the gang of four of which Julia was SECOND IN COMMAND and had both her hands in the melting pot of all the disasters.
All this rubbish they go on about of how well they managed the downturn...they only did that because of the surplus left for them by the previous government.

    • Ideas Avatar
    • geege 30/07/10 10:00 PM

Yes, well, I guess that you need some basic ads to appeal to the "lowest common denominator" category of people. Not a bad ad. Much better than the previous one. It makes the points that Labor is still bad despite the change of leader and suggests Gillard can't be trusted - not even Kevin could trust her. Yes, it is ok to make these points but I suggest that you educate the masses on the damage Labor has done in a short time. Focus on how they have wasted our tax money. Focus on how they are wasting our time and money on this Global warming rubbish. Climate always changes and always has. We woud be worried if it wasn't changing.

    • Ideas Avatar
    • al 30/07/10 10:10 PM

Agree with the comments above. The ad is clever, but Libs are being perceived as being negative. We need more of Tony, talking frankly and directly about his vision for future Australia. • Ideas Avatar
    • Carl 31/07/10 01:49 AM

I laughed out loud when I heard the Labor slogan "moving forward". How could they use that and keep a straight face? All we have done is move backwards since they have been in office. What have we gained? Thousands of illegal immigrants at enormous cost to the taxpayer, a bungled home insulation scheme that will cost million of dollars to fix up and taxpayers dollars wasted on failed schemes that have been listed a few times on this page.
The graph showing how many illegal immigrants have arrived on our shores since Labor took office should be shown in an ad on TV. Towards the end of the campaign list all Liberal policies in a short and concise manner.
DON'T "MOVE FORWARD" IN REVERSE GEAR IN THE LABOR CLUNKER. VOTE FOR SOUND SAFE AND SENSIBLE GOVERNMENT - VOTE LIBERAL.

Australia needs some leadership, while the add reminds us of the problems of the past regarding the labour party, it does little to inspire people to consider the libs as a suitable alternative. This add wont swing voters away from the greens or from labour for that matter. With labour in a state of disarray..now is the time to show leadership on key issues such as water management, the economy , small business, tax reform and law and order.

No cetain about this one, we need to hit home with the real issues now. Hit back at the stuff ups they have made. Show the cast of four who were involved in most of them. Swan only has to open his mouth and it is a stuff up. You can do better then this. I agree with Joseph, I now have a good feeling the truth is starting to come out and our dear Ms Gillard who want's to look like everyones friend is not tracking so well. She sure has had enough publicity with Womens's Weekly etc. You need to get the message out that if you vote green it is a vote for labour. Tony is doing a great job.

Not sure how those who are 'sitting on the fence' will view the ad that clearly indicates a degree of negativity and un-Australian. What Gillard did to Kevin is un-Australian. I would like to see that emphasized in your ads rather than follow in the same vein. She back stabbed Kevin on every account. Laurie Oaks is giving you lots of amunition. Use it.

"When Labor took office Christmas Island was empty and the treasury was full. Now Christmas Island is overflowing and Treasury is skint"!
Would be good to use this in an ad on TV. Also counter the "workchoices" rubbish they are labouring on TV.

I have to agree with Barbara. An add showing the Island empty with treasury full , then the revers would be a great one. Have Silly Jilly shoveling out the money with Kev the Dudd running around giving it away. Then showing an empty treasury safe with that guy who is treasure coming up with a BIG NEW TAX on EVERY THING, to restock all the wast.

So she is going to throw out the rule book!! Well when did she last use it?? She is in panic mode and this is dangerous. She demonstrated what a nasty piece of work she can be, when she knifed Rudd in the back! She will say and do anything to get back into government. Tony needs to have all the answers ready. She'll dig up anything. But don't fall into her trap of name calling. Just point out all her failings - and those of her colleagues who would form government if they win on the 21st. And there's plenty of ammunition! Policy on the run (with the 150 committee debacle) - didn't even consult cabinet! She is making it up as she is going along. She clearly doesn't have a clue. Labor would romp it in if they did!!! And they don't mind being caught either..it is "great" being held in Australian prisons (at the Australian taxpayers expense) Those who missed ABC TV "4 corners" last night should get it up on the net and watch. After doing so, anyone with any sense at all would not vote Labor on this farce alone, without even considering all the other cataclysmic messes Labor has managed to stack up in the last three years. Well done Scott Morrison for commenting about this in today's news. This revelation by ABC TV needs MUCH MORE publicity.

      Mike,
I understand your concern however the current Labor Government will sink to any level to be reappointed to govern (small g). You have not said where you hail from so it is difficult to make any assumption of what you may think about life and Governments in Australia. What I can safely report to you is that Australians generally were extremely unsettled with the way Kevin Rudd was leading the country and so were the ex-Union bosses elected to Parliament so they dumped Kevin. His successor Julia Gillard has, in a few short weeks attained the notorious badge as the worst prime minister ever. Now the deposed Kevin Rudd has been called in to help seat her onto the prime ministerial throne. All this high drama is much worse than any pantomime or punch and judy show. If I have retained your readership this far scroll up to the top of the page and click into the spot marked POLICIES and you will start to understand where the Liberals are headed. Stand by for the Liberal Campaign Launch by Tony Abbott tomorrow. I am pretty confident that there will be more POLICY announcement to follow in this lead up period.

For a lemon they have done a great job stopped Australia going in to recession. imagine if they did what the lib wanted to do (Nothing!) we would be a 9 to 10% unemployment, people would be losing there houses, then housing prices would plummet, then you would all be complaining about how you payed 600k for yr house now it’s worth 500k. You would be in huge debt and nothing to show for it.
Australia is in debt $55bil it sounds huge but when you work out the figures its 5%GDP (Gross Domestic Product) that means if you earn $100k per year you borrowed $5000
Which is a tiny amount of money and very easy to pay back, Labour did this cos there jobs at stake, JOBS! And when people lose jobs the country gets into debt so which would you prefer debt when you have got a job or debt when yr unemployed. look at the rest of the world Spain 17.4% unemployment UK 7.8% USA 9.7% Ireland 13.4% this is what we would have if we had libs in power with there do nothing, see what happens, she will be all right attitude. Thank god they were not!

Michael - The only reason Labor rode the economic downturn was because the previous government (Liberal) left them with an enormous surplus, and other available funds. If we have a double dip downturn, and this is a possibility, there is nothing in Treasury, and we would be in trouble. Our current debt is rivaling the Keating Labor government's debt of the 1990's when we had 17 per cent interest rates, and 11 per cent unemployment, and when many people lost their homes.

Please note: Grocery watch programme which was useless and quietly faded into oblivion. Fuel watch (same story) Copenhagen (same story) The dismantling of sound and successful laws put in place by the Howard government, to prevent the flourishing of the people smuggling industry, resulting in an overflowing Christmas Island with all the associated costs. And the daddy of them all, the home insulation programme which cost not only money, but lives. There's been more waste but that will do for now.

Some whacker up there thinks that earning $150k makes them 'upper class'. I bet that there are many thousands of people who did not do so well at school but got stuck into a job and with sweat and determination are earning well in excess of $150k a year. They do not think of themselves as 'upper class' they think of themselves as LUCKY. Lucky to live in a country that allows for the determined to get ahead and prosper rather than sitting around waiting for the next CentreLink payment to arrive. Labor (Labour, Democrat) governments are no good for the ultimate GOOD of a country. They run the country down with irresponsible spending. They waste money. (The Rudd government excelled at this) And it might all seem good at the time, but eventually the piper has to be paid. Just look at what years of Labour government has done to Britain, and the same is happening at rapid pace in the US with Obama. Don't let it happen here. Think voters think!! And remember that a vote for the Greens is a vote for Labor.

Do you not have any strengths about your own party you can proudly publicise rather than try to mask you own deficiencies by finding lame ways to belittle the government? School yard bullies do the same thing to hide their own insecurities!

Tony, you're just a nasty old man. You're policies have nothing positive and that's why that cheeky Julia will win with the over-used "Moving Forward", because at least she has something to say other than using scare tactics to win an election.

Gotta stop with the negative messages...really putting a lot of people off. I may change my vote soley on the basis that this campaign is nothing but a smear-fest. Please start with the positive messages... How are you going to improve our lives, rather than, how labour are going to make our live miserable..All the best..

Tonyhater...you're a drongo...scare campaigns? isn't that a word that Labor created? The have innundated us with their scare campaigns for years...i think this one is tongue in cheek and spot on..nothing scary..just plain facts..

and JP..you are not interested in how Labor makes our lives miserable? keep putting your head in the sand..you're onto a sure winner there...

Perhaps the people commenting on this site calling for a stop to the Coalition so called "negative" ads are Labor voters, or members of the Labor Party who are worried that voters will learn the truth about this dreadful government, which is surely the worst in our history, and there'd be worse to come if the grossly incompetent Julia gains government.
There are plenty of Coalition ads with policy information, but maybe these people are not interested in those?
For "slagging off ads" you can't beat the Labor variety. For the most part they are misleading, and in some cases downright lies.

I am perplexed and confused as I cant stand Gillard but I loathe Abbot even more, Should i vote for Gillard as a protest to Abbot or vote for Abbot for whatever? Far out I cant vote greens never noway, people we have got 2 really poor excuses for candidates on our hands we have a woman who says everything and does nothing and a man who constantly contradicts himself and is probably even further to the right of honest John, Dont get me wrong John howard was a good prime minister but his use of xenophobia and other fear based propaganda tactics just totally turned me off, not to mention the silent treatment on work choices till he had the election won.

The media is so biased in favour of Labor, newspapers (especially the SMH) the ABC and Ch, 9. How about Kerry O'Brien (7:30 report) get Julia Gillard on the show and ask HER to explain all the technical details of Broadband? No one would expect her to explain it - well no reasonable person. This is why governments have different experts doing different jobs. Tony needs to make this plain. The other thing is this, will we EVER see the Labor broadband programme? or will it be just like the other huge programme promises that have been scuttled? At least Tony's broadband programme is believable.

Exactly Nathen get Gillard to explain the ins and outs of broadband, at least Tony told the truth and should be respected for that. That's why you have ministers he does have to understand it all and no one would expect him to and the folks that say he should please step up to the plate and explain it all for us to understand. Whom wants to be locked in to a Government Internet plan for 24/36 months and i presume that will be something like that, and at what cost. I for one cannot understand how anyone would contemplate voting Labor.
Cannot one see what they haven't done and the things they have tried to do have been a complete disaster and if Rudd was the be all to end all best Why did they sack him. Labor will go down as the biggest embarrassment of a Government the great country has seen, whether you like or dislike the Liberal Party surely you would not hesitate to elect them, and get this country back on the level it should be, they all [parties] make mistakes BUT when it comes to Labor they are the Champions and the winners by far at DEBT and Stuff ups

Peter!! You are SO right! What you wrote is just brilliant. I hope Tony or those organizing his media releases read this and act upon it. I didn't even consider being locked into (forced into?) 2 or 3 year plans - or how much it would cost the individual. But commonsense denotes that they would have to get back their output of $43 billion, (and knowing them they would have under costed it) and the taxpayer and those using it would have to foot the huge cost. We have had some pretty incompetent Labor governments, but this lot get the prize for topping the bill. (pun intended)

Is it just me or a people so so silly. After the peoples forum at the Rooty Hill RSL last night, the topic today is the people were stacked for the Liberal Party and the questions asked of Gillard were a lot more hostile and more difficult than those asked of Abbott. OK please tell me if i am wrong. Off course the questions to Gillard were more "Ok" hostile and more fronting.. Why ill tell you ..Ready for this folks this may be a shock to some.... She is the leader of the current Government.. Off course the questions are going to be more fronting, people had questions as to why this and that had happened. On the other hand Abbott didnt have to answer to all the stuff ups of the past 3 years as he was not a party to it. A telling point was the fact Abbott would answer some questions with Quote "Iam sorry i would love to help but i cannot, there is just no money for it". Yet Gillard on the other hand always says yes we WILL DO THIS and WE WILL DO THAT whether its affordable or not. Finally the people of NSW have had an incompedent Lador party at the helm [ and not a very reliable State Government] that has made the people very wary and fed up, and this will refect in the way they veiw Labor in the Federal Election

You've done it again Peter. Excellent observation!! Spot on!! The Liberals are NOT IN GOVERNMENT - it is something that the media seem to miss - all the time. They grill Tony and other Liberal party members, relentlessly, but give Gillard and her motley crew free kicks all the time, and allow her to rave on endlessly in that gratingly awful voice.
But I think the people saw through that sickly Gillard smile (leer, grin?) and all her falseness, and the exit poll gave it to Tony.

Well Nathen you and me have to keep em on there toes. I had a laugh today. Gillard announced the broadband was 10 times faster than they expected. Now Nathen help me out here, iam no tech head BUT the was only a handful of folks connected to the new system. Even if the whole of Tasmania was online it is nothing in comparison to millions online at one time. Hey i may be wrong. Anyway whether it works or not it wont be smooth sailing connecting the whole country and one wouldn't be surprised if it blew out to 100 billion over 8 years. Its a bit different to pink bats and we have seen how that turned out. Well Nathen we can only hope voters can see the incompetence of this rabble called Labor and vote in the Libs. Whatever the Question is to Gillard she goes off course into a ranting raving spiel about how good her Government handled the GFC and what a great job Ruddy did to save us. Oh please give me a break i cannot listen to that voice much longer.

This is the most accurate add i have ever seen, but it's to late labor has stuffed Australia beyond repair, maybe rud can say sorry to every one this time.
Look where we are now, cost of living , traffic congestion, housing affordability, violence on the streets, over governed citizens, fines at every corner , the salad bawl of the world. Wonder what the diggers died for ? were now selling Australia to every on who can afford it. Rud and Gillard should be locked up for treason. Young people got no hope of ever owning a home or receiving a decent education (education is a business selling to the highest international bidder). Some one needs to step in and stop this reckless government.
