  • Newspapers: Rudd is all talk, no action

    JAMES MCGRATH DEPUTY FEDERAL DIRECTOR | 04/02/10

    Today’s newspapers (795 days of broken promises, Rudd yet to deliver, Trail of broken promises) have highlighted Mr Rudd’s failure to back up talk with real action by releasing an extensive list of Labor broken promises since coming to office in 2007.

    The list of Mr Rudd’s broken promises includes:

    • Abandoning his pledge to monitor grocery prices when it scrapped the Grocery Choice website, at a cost of $10 million to taxpayers;
    • Failing to keep petrol prices low through his proposed Fuel Watch scheme;
    • Back-flipping on his promise to leave the private health insurance rebate untouched;
    • Abolishing his promised $4.7 billion national broadband network and replacing it with a $43 billion proposal.

    With Australian families under increasing pressure, it’s time for Mr Rudd to stop the talk and finally take action.

    The Liberals understand the challenges faced by Australian families every day. We will continue to hold Mr Rudd and Labor to account and make sure Australian families get the results they were promised.

      Rudd has not only failed to keep his promises he has never had a single proposal of hhis own .Prior to his election win he was all "Me Too" when ever John Howard or the Libs. put forward a proposal, the same applies with his grand hospital idea, He is trying to emulate the Obama health scheme but in a much different way and for a much more "Grandoise I am the Man " appeal.The man is a nonce and believes he is infallible along with all the "Blurb" written about him. That's why Rudd's always asking the Liberals, where their Policy is on this and where their Policy is on that, because they have no sensible ideas of their own and don't appear capable of running a chook raffle properly, so are desperate before this next Election to get Liberals Policies so Rudd can do a 'me too' and try and con the people once more like at the last Election!

      I think many people now agree that Mr Rudd is all talk and very little action. It is curious however when the little action that his government does manage to take which ends in a total fiasco he is prepared to sit infront of the camera and say "It is my fault, the buck stops with me", but fails to acknowledge the fact that his errors in judgement affect peoples lives while he still has the option of a home (at public expense), a regular income and lots of perks. Mr Rudd the taxpayers of this country are your employers - we pay your salary and quite frankly if any of my employees performed as dreadfully as you have, I would seriously consider termination. Perhaps if you acknowledge your responsibility in the failed policies to date you should also consider the possibility of falling on your own sword.

      Rudd's lack of "a plan" for anything, was made most evident, when he called the "2020" summit - one of the biggest wastes of time. He also relies on individuals Garnaut, Henry etc. rather than listening for consensus or concern.

      He's a poor man that hides behind others. He spins ideas, and when they fail, it's someone else's issue. "He's the man" - that's the mentality, a me-first policy, and the country will follow. We need a leader, not a Philosopher.

      Tony, can you organise from a local trophy place a Gold medal with Kevin 07 ribbon to be presented to Rudd when next in Parliament? After all, it's a gold medal year!

      Also I would recommend a patch be presented to Rudd and Gillard commending Christmas island as a white elephant. Design found here at this site.

      I was stupid enough to believe Labor would make good it's promises last election. How silly I was. I may not agree with all liberal stands for, but history shows that you do at least get what you vote for.

      The labor government has done nothing to address housing affordability. I am not talking about rate rises but the actual cost of purchase and also the rents people have to pay to be near there work.

      I hope that if the Liberal party gets in that they have a look at issues such as property speculation and negative gearing. It may be put in the too hard basket.
      The argument made by investors is that any Govt will make it easy for property investors because they don't want to fund public housing. I can see if speculation does not slow down that the Australian Government will have a massive problem on their hands. They will have to start subsidising peoples rents (workers). Recently I saw a pigeon shed on a small block in the inner west sell for $800,000. I am not joking.
