  • Swan Breaks Another Promise on Jobs

    30/01/12

Wayne Swan’s revelation this morning that the government will not deliver on its promise of 500,000 new jobs is another broken promise and highlights how the Gillard government cannot be trusted.

Wayne Swan told the Australian people that his 2011-12 Budget was all about jobs:

Well, it is jobs, jobs and jobs. It's a bigger and better trained workforce.

Wayne Swan promised that he would deliver an additional 500,000 new jobs for Australians:

We will see the creation of an additional 500,000 jobs in the next couple of years.”

In an interview this morning with Fran Kelly Wayne Swan confirmed that this was yet another broken promise by the Gillard government:

Fran Kelly: In terms of the positives though, the government positively forecast half a million new jobs over the next two years to be created. Given the zero jobs growth last year, are you still confident that figure holds? That (it) can be achieved?

Wayne Swan: Certainly we will do less than that.

On top of broken promises about the carbon tax, the tax summit and poker machines, this is yet another example of how the Gillard government cannot be trusted. The Australian public are legitimately asking what promise the Gillard government will break next.

Only the Coalition will deliver transparency, accountability and restore trust in government.
