Welcome end to ABCC political affiliation

The Coalition welcomes reports today that Australian Building and Construction Commissioner Leigh Johns has succumbed to pressure from the Coalition to resign his ALP membership.

"After months of calling for Mr Johns to resign his membership of the ALP, I welcome his decision to do just that," Senator Abetz said today.

"Like all Australians, I want our industrial body to ensure that the law is fairly enforced and applied, without fear or favour. It is vital that people have confidence in the ABCC.

"It is important for the Australian Building and Construction Commission to be transparent and free from the perception of political bias.

"The Minister should have taken steps to fix this months ago," Senator Abetz concluded.
