End Labor’s waste and restore cabinet government

The Hon Tony Abbott Leader of the Opposition

Labor has wasted too much taxpayers’ money.

The Coalition won’t repeat Labor’s disastrous ‘pink batts’ program.

The Coalition will also stop the billions of dollars being wasted through the ‘school halls’ program, and cut spending on government advertising.

    Bad processes produce bad decisions.

Unlike Labor where decisions are made without proper process or consultation, the Coalition will restore the decision-making processes of Cabinet to restore integrity to government decision-making.

It is a dark day when a sitting Prime Minister can be stabbed in the back by a non elected puppet of the labor facists. Australia deserves better. Only the Liberal Party can deliver Australia from the dark quagmire of Labor filth and dirty politics. What hurts the most is the utter disregard that Labor displays for the sovereign voice of the electorate.

    • Robert Garven 19/07/10 12:49 PM

Tony during the election campaign. By all means keep on reminding people about all the Government waste. However above all please deliver positive agendas such as your policy on mental health as I think this is a lot bigger issue than most people think. The electorate need to hear clear and concise alternatives from you. You are in for one hell of a dog fight now that Gillard has been reported as doing a deal with the Greens for their preference votes in the senate. Get out there and hear the concerns of the electorate.

Tony you SHOULD use the slogan "move foreword or go back" in a context "foreword to prosper Australia or back with assassin Julia"

I agree with comments by Robert Garven.
Voters are getting tired of the old stuff being put out there, they are looking for something new, please expand on your policy on mental health, address cost of living (a big issue for most). Be positive. The less spin the more clear will be your message.

Take charge of the press, you must be in control of them. No doubt 'work choices' will continue to be thrown at you.....answer simply....I have been clear on this, no change, I don't deal in hypotheticals!!! - move on (or forward). By all means keep reminding the voters of all the wasted billions $....some voters have short memories. Politicians egos need to be put away and all get out there and listen to the voters, hear their concerns.

I think you don`t go far enough in advertising
how is this slogan to compete with the `we will move forward` labour add.

Why not say......... ` We`ll Move Forward alright; but first ...we have to clean up Labours Mess......Then we can truly all move Forward.

Your adds are good but could be better.
You should run a fear campaign on a ETS like labour run about work choices.
Cause when Labour is in The ETS is on the agenda again and they so undemocratically tried to sneak this thru the senate without educating people about this tax. You can show this. Gillard was a communist at UNI now that action on that bit of legislation is heading down that path. show this. people can see the extreme left for what it is. She isn`t even australian born.

PLEASE MR ABBOTT - PLEASE DO AN ANTI "WORK CHOICES" LABOR STYLE ADD WITH A DISTRESSED-LOOOKING WOMAN ON OUR TV SCREEN WITH A COUPLE OF SAD CHILDREN IN THE BACKGROUND WITH HER CRYING ABOUT THE DISGRACEFUL WASTE OF BILLIONS OF OUR HARD-EARNED TAXPAYER DOLLARS HAVING BEEN WASTED BY JULIA GILLARD AND KEVIN RUDD........... THE MOTHER WOULD BE CRYING:
"HOW COULD KEVIN RUDD AND JULIA GILLARD WASTE SO MANY BILLIONS OF
OUR TAX-PAYER DOLLARS OVER THE LAST THREE DISASTEROUS YEARS OF
FAILED SCHEMES SUCH AS THE INSULATION AND BUILDING EDUCATION
REVOLUSION ......... AND HOW ARE OUR CHILDREN GOING TO BE ABLE TO PAY BACK
ALL THE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF LABOR DEBT AND BORROWING?"
YOU HAVE TO PULL AT THE "HEART-STRINGS" OF THE ELECTORATE, AS THE LABOR PARTY DID SO BRUTALLY AND DISHONESTLY ABOUT LIBERAL'S "WORK CHOICES" BACK IN THE 2007 ELECTIONS.

The Coalition would do well to look closely to Queensland.

Yes, there is the disgraceful way the unions think that they elect our PM.

Also, the fact is the Queensland electorate was conned in March 2009 election by Anna Bligh going early because she knew she was about to liuquidate sate assests.
The voters now can't wait to throw her out. They are waiting just as they did for Keating.

Are Queenslanders to be conned again, this time federally.? There are votes in this one.

It is absolutely crucial to help people understand that the proposed cuts in spending will eventually mean more money in taxpayers' pockets.

Don't people get that every time Labor talks about all their proposed plans they are talking about using taxpayers' money?
Or do they believe Labor can create wealth out of thin air?

Whether now, or years later, the cost of their reckless spend will be borne by us.

I'd rather have a government that spend less, and lets ME make my own decisions about what to do with MY money, than a government that heavily taxes me and gets to decide how best to allocate the produce of my work.

Young first time voters think Julia has something to offer! Why? You need to find out and act! We cannot let them make that mistake.

Need to keep advising people that a vote for GREEN is a vote for LABOR. (One polling day I witnessed someone in a Green t-shirt turn into a Red one, right before my eyes). The freedom we knew as kids will not be the same for our grandchildren. More and more recreational areas for fishing and camping are being closed down to the people of Australia. How people plan and construct their homes on their own land is restricted to where trees are growing on the block. The list goes on. I love my trees, but let GREENS have power and lord help us.

Gillard makes sure she always says SHE TOOK the decision to stab Rudd in the back and even now in the debate she is saying she did it in the NATIONAL INTEREST. If you take what Oakes has said at the Press Club, the reality is we have an unelected Prime Minister of Australia being TOLD what to do and when to do it by the union thugs. She did not take the decision at all. No wonder she will not speak of it.

THERE WAS BI-PARTISAN AGREEMENT TO A FREETRADE AGREEMENT WITH AMERICA. Kenneth Davidson wrote in 2004 that a freetrade deal with America would stunt Australia's growth in matters of intellectual property rights, agriculture and intrusion into our pharmeceutical benefits scheme. He says: It might be more accurate to describe the deal between the Howard Government and the Bush Administration as a bloodless coup rather than a free trade agreement. The agreement involves a voluntary surrendering of a large chunk of Australia's national sovereignty in policy areas such as investment, intellectual property rights, services and government procurement, for very little return in terms of opening the US market for Australian goods where Australia has a clear competitive advantage. http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/08/11/1092102518345.html Well, the results are in: These FTAs are never about free trade from an American point of view. They are about creating another opportunity to strong-arm smaller countries into granting trade concessions to large American businesses. You only have to ask the Australian sugar farmers about the Australian FTA with America to find out how good that was. American sugar interests blocked sugar from the deal. American drug companies tried to shut down Australia's version of Pharmac. Australia's exporters have hardly benefited from the deal.Australian Bureau of Statistics trade data shows that Australian exports to the United States rose 0.9 per cent in the first five years of its FTA with America. That compares with export growth in the previous 10 years of 105 per cent and import growth from America of 8.5 per cent in the first 5 years of the deal. Get the picture? The Australian FTA with America failed to significantly increase exports to America. In fact, export growth already happening was stunted to almost nothing. But on the other side of the ledger, American imports to Australia continued to grow Bernard Hickey http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10633801

DEAR MR ABBOTT - COULD YOU PLEASE DO AN ADD WITH VISION OF QUESTION TIME IN PARLIAMENT WITH KEVIN RUDD STANDING IN THE FRONT AND JULIA GILLARD SITTING BEHIND HIM NODDING IN AGREEMENT AT HIS EVERY WORD THEN WITH YOU IN THE CORNER OF THE SCREEN SAYING:

"HOW CAN YOU TRUST JULIA GILLARD WHEN SHE WAS CONSTANTLY NODDING IN AGREEMENT WITH KEVIN RUDD ONE DAY AND THEN GETTING RID OF HIM THE NEXT?!?! YES, THE COALITION DID CHANGE LEADERS, BUT WE WERE IN OPPOSITION AND MALCOM TURNBULL WAS NOT THE PRIME MINISTER!!! IF YOU WANT A TRUSTWORHTY GOVERNMENT WHO WILL FIX ALL OF LABOR'S BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF WATEFULNESS - THE ONLY WAY TO VOTE IS LIBERAL!!!

I THINK SUCH AN ADD WILL REMIND THE AUSTRALIANS FO THE LABOR PARTY'S EVIL WAYS, WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE THEY WOULD MAKE IF THEY DID NOT VOTE FOR THE LIBERAL PARTY!!!

J-Gills wants to pay people $2000 to trade in their 15yo cars for new ones and this is supposed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Well, it might work if it didn't take energy to build new cars and if new cars actually consumed considerably less fuel. Take this comparison from USA: If you traded in a 10yo Toyota Tercel for a hybrid Toyota Prius, you would have to drive 100 000 miles before you start making an impact on carbon production. WHAT A JOKE! I would rather give up working altogether than watch my taxes wasted on token environmentalist gestures.

A 2008 Toyota Prius produces AS MUCH carbon as a 1994 Geo Metro. And ironically, thanks to the nickel content of a Prius' battery, it takes less energy to build a Hummer. So be kind to the environment and hold on to that old car, it probably produces less bad gas than the Labor Party.

We need good economic management and investment in value added and well conceived projects. The $1.35 billion Myki in Melbourne by Labour should be investigated for gross waste of taxpayers money. Similarly what is the financial return on the highspeed broadband? The technology could well be out of date within 10 years and there are other infrastructure and community projects that are much more urgent.

We need to support what little manufacturing industry is left. This is value added and means productive jobs. Too much has closed up in recent years and is now reflected by lack of skills. This will bite us more in the years to come., particularly if we ever have to stand alone.

    • Neil Crombie
    • Neil Crombie 28/07/10 02:02 PM

Spot on Ian, But unfortunately people have a conception that a strong Aussie dollar is good for the country, I beg to differ as this is why so many of our manufacturing jobs have gone overseas. A medium to weak AUD means that exports are cheaper for other countries therefore they can afford to pay us a better price, and imports become expensive, making internal manufacturing viable once again.....

I have voted Liberal since I could vote; I have wanted my Vote to count. I agree with the party on a majority or issues. However for the first time since I began voting, I wonder wether Mr Abbott, would be the right man for the role.
I am hoping someone reads this and can provide me with a suitable response on why I should make my vote count and vote Liberal, or whether I simply go into the voting booth and pretend like I care...
Long gone are the days of suitable candidates like Howard and Costello...Give me a live and coherent leader to vote for and you will get my vote.....But I beginning to wonder whether Tony is just the lesser of two evils.

    • Neil Crombie 28/07/10 06:28 PM

Tony is definately the 1st preference of the two, what you have to remember is your voting in a party not just a leader. You are voting on a mind set, if your happy to vote for out of control expenditure and HUGE unfair taxes to minority groups to pay for it then vote Labor back in!

The Howard Government spent $1,000,000,000 (yes, a billion!) on the so-called Pacific Solution, an average of almost $600,000 for every one of the poor saps they processed on the heap of bird poo called Nauru. And now they have the gall to accuse others of wasting money.

They spent $400,000,000 on the big useless white elephant called the Christmas Island Detention Centre, which continues to haemorrhage taxpayers' money with asylum processing costing about four times as much as it would oon the Australian mainland.

Howard said none of the Nauru people would ever gain entry to Australia. But the people they detained for 5 years there just about lost their minds, but eventually almost all finished up living in Australia or NZ anyway. A total waste of money, simply designed to make Liberals look tough and get extra votes.

      Liberal Hypocrites.

I apologise for my accusations that someone must be blocking my posts.

I am now embarrassed that I made them, please forgive me.

I had nothing to do with the 23 AG poster, Neil Crombie, who I possibly encoura..ged with his unsuitable post, by my own problems with the site.

      Tony,
I don't think that I could stand it if Labor were to win this election. I keep telling myself that surely the Australian People are not that stupid? But I think that the real Julia Gillard is being seen for what she really is. A person that stabs her leader in the back, and is being directed by the Unions. It should have been up to the Australian Electorate to decide the fate of Kevin Rudd, not the Union heavies. After all he was the Prime Minister. I would not have voted for him, but it should have been my right to decide one way or the other.
Please consider helping the Pensioners Tony, I think this is an important issue, and I would much prefer that the Liberals be the first to come out with a Policy, before Labor. Australia, think carefully before this election.. The Liberals are the party for a successful Australia.

      Tony,
Please stay on this border protection and let people know the millions Labor has wasted on motels and the cost of keeping these people that should be spent on education, hospitals, housing and infrastructure not wasted on putting up people that can afford to pay the high fees people smugglers charge. We are at war with some of these people and our men are dying for their country so these boat people should really be fighting for their own country.
Also please make sure you have a knock out add for the final week as things are leveling out and we really need a super add to get your party over the finish line.

please let australia know that the rubbish that labor are going on about superannuation is so fraudulent they should be put in front of a magistrate for.
they will never give all australians all their super as most of them will be dead or still working when they are in their 70s. it is just a nice little earner for their socialists bank account that they can use to keep the unemployed voting for them

The Political parties, especially the ALP needs to get up to speed with the current Social Theory:

Ilya Pri.go.gine won the Nobel prize for Che.mistry in 1977. So what you might say? Well, the point is it completely tra.nsfo.rmed all social theory, the tran.sformation is a work in progress. Whether you realise it or not, the slogan, "Moving Forward" is an exemplar of Prigogine's opus! "Moving Forward" is to Prigogine, what E=MC2 is to Einstein.

Prigogine's book, "The End of Certainty" explains that deter.minism is no longer a viable scientific belief. He re-introduces the arrow of time to physics and prog.resses to chaos theory and the concept that we are always making order out of chaos. This theory has had a huge impact on all social sciences, systems and theory.

Under this theory we know the ire.lev.ance of pointing to a person's beliefs in the old epoch, we are in tran.sition out of that epoch. Tony Abbott's religious beliefs 20 years ago, do not and can never define him in the current context. He has "moved on" to a new gestalt. We are all collectively in social evolution and it is absolutely "correct" that we change our minds and that we tran.sform over time.

The point that I have been making about the Dawkin's Education revolution is that, Prigogine's ideas were
" PEAKING" in fashion-ability then. The ALP set out to capture the future vote with the Dawkins plan, to destroy manufacturing and trade training and set in place the building blocks of univ.ersal University education, seeking to ride a wave into the future. But, as Prigogine war.ned the future cannot be deter.mined, just as Climate cannot be determined by models, the World is a chaotic system and any ordering is time dependant and will inevitably collapse.

I don't know why the Liberal Campaign is ignoring the Australian Debt issue. When Liberals last in power - $55 Billion Surplus - Future fund After Labour for 4 years - $1?? Billion Debt - No future fund. In 3.5 Years, ALP managed to consume 150+ Billion, and place every Australian into debt. Per person this equates to $x of National debt. Missing a major scoring point here.

Why do the Libs sit back and let the Labor scum take credit for Australia avoiding the worst of the GFC?

If it was not for the solid financial state of the economy that the previous Lib Govt (and Pete Costello) had left behind for Labor, we too would have gone over the cliff.

I'm afraid that the Australia electorate is just stupid enough to vote back another Labor Govt.

Julia made a deal with Kevin on his last day as PM. She broke that deal within hours. Julia chose the election date, and the 1 debate rule. Now she wants to change her mind. Julia said she was 100% for the cabinet process. The hair brained idea about about a peoples forum WAS NOT a cabinet decision. When you, Tony took on the leadership, you had a snow ball in hells chance of winning. Go for gold mate, you are doing great.

It shows the same intelligence as having a nodding dog in the rear window of a car. Guys,

Labor are playing the Man now and not the game. Its Hawker-Briton and NSW ALP straight up.

You simply must recognise this and respond. Tonight I saw 5 Labor adds within 2 hours plus a couple from the Nurses Union attacking Tony Abbott personally.

This campagn is getting dirty and its about to get very very dirty as Labor can see they are really in danger of losing power and all the lurks that they derive from it.

Policy releases are great and add to the reasons why people should vote for us ...but this negative personal campaign, particularly from Swan and Gillard has started to give Labor some momentum.

Its time to hit back with some of the lemon adds. Its time for Tony and Joe to really get stuck into Swan as the inept buffoon with no economic cred who is stealing Costellos success and claiming it as his own. Its time to focus on what a thief Gillard is. Stealing from taxpayers to waste on pet projects like the BER under the guise of education when it was really just waste. Stealing from Krudd the Prime Ministership. Paying out $900 bonuses to anyone for nothing and calling this good economic management that created jobs. Its Rot but they are getting away with it right now!

Comon ...this will slip away from you by the end of this week if you dont get back on top of them now. As Tony said today ..This election is now VERY Winable .... but it could well be lost by inaction at this crucial stage.

Wrt the advertising campaign at a federal level, I just don't think its really cutting through in some cases. Yes, I know the mantra is "Stop the...waste...boats...debt etc", but I think more needs to be done to associate Julia Gillard as a key decision maker with all the broken promises/spin. If there's another message, it needs to focus on "broken promises" and "breaking trust". Remember that KRudd promised the world in 2007 and has he delivered on any of the promises....No!! The Liberals need to have a scorecard approach (similar to a school report [seeing as Julia as the Education Minister] and next to each line item have a big "X" with an overall result of "Fail". You can't "move forward" in school if you fail a year, so how can Labor "move forward" with the country if they've "failed" the existing parliamentary term???

I don't think it's overly negative, it's stating the facts. Labor are 'playing the man', and with lies as well. It's about time the Gillard Government are associated with a "Failed" Report Card.

Even if there is a targeted campaign to be run in NSW media only, linking the failed state government with a failed federal government, seeeing as NSW is clearly on the nose. The fact that NSW got bugger all [$50m???] of the Infrastructure Grants when QLD & VIC received hundreds of millions of $$$ shows that there is no "...new period of state/federal collaboration" as KRudd promised would occur. A NSW targeted campaign would also assist in the marginal seats where only a small swing is needed for the Libs to pick up the seats they need.

Official figures show that it let immigration rip once it took power.

Vote Liberal i can say i will, Thou Liberal will freeze immigration as they are in the procces of this now' even when they are not in power like wow good on ya Tony.

However i have to say this" Tony get rid of immigration altogether they come on boats they are criminals more so the on People Smugglers they should be sent back and they Boat People Smugglers should be jailed for this crime ' Tony train our own people to get the job's they need. Get rid of the dole so these bums.( the ones who actually just love the dole) have to actually work a day in their life! in the old days, you could get a job,get on the job training, and learn the rest from there. these days you need a certificate this cost money lot of it the people on the Dole can't get this, there are so many rules and procedures that make it hard to get a job or do anything yet the gov gives Money for the immigrants to live on more then the Australians on the Dole. I would love the Money you give them then i would not have to work. At least give it to our own then they can use that money to get a certificate to get a job thats what i need. I am now 32 and never had a Job in my life. Tony Abbott's please just give and help people in long term job unemployed people a go with job incentives for the over 30's & 50's

I can remember Tony Abbott wants the dole taken away from people under 30-years-old. I am over that age so doe's that mean i am left out of a job. Like wake up Liberals as if thats going to work Australia needs a true leader to run it i still believe Liberal fits the job.

This is a post I prepared for the ALP, but it is important that we remind ourselves that voting Coalition is more important than just for the economy.

How timely were my remarks on Globalization yesterday?

Well, you may not know that Bruce Grant, co-author of Gareth Evans book, AUSTRALIA'S FORIEGN RELATIONS, gets a guensey in the Faifax press today. ie This is the ALP view, front line and centre. This is the Kevin Rudd, Stephen Smith, Julia Gillard view: The crux of this article is here:------ “The cluster of global institutions such as the United Nations and its agencies do not have direct access to the world's people, who remain under the control of 200 or so national governments.”

The significance of this, is that the UN Rights cabal want to displace STATES, altogether, they want to Institute, by Treaty, Legislation and sanctions, UN Rights over everything.

-----We the people don’t want universalist, one size fits all, UN Rights displacing our responsibility to be descent people, descent human beings. We do not want to be treated as children------The more Human RIGHTS, as Legislation displaces the Individual’s personal responsibility to do the RIGHT THING, the more the community will breakdown.

Personal responsibility is at the heart of what it is to be human, it is at the source of all great Literature and Art, take that away and the creative spirit of humanity is broken, it dies. You have taken away, what it means to be human-----We cannot let this happen.

------We must fight against these universalist and Absolutist bodies like the UN. We must fight against hollow people like Kevin Rudd et al. We have been fighting the simple, one size fits all mentality, throughout the whole 20th Century. We fought off communism and we must continue the fight. The Absolutist tendencies, of Communism are alive and well in the new UN inspired Rights Bodies.

Vote Green 'Vote Liberal - This is a start of a string of projects that Tony Abbott. Has already spruiked his ''15,000-strong green army'' several times during this campaign. But he hasn't mentioned that voters would have to elect him not once, but twice, before the environmental force ever got that big.

When it is due to start, in the second half of next year, its numbers would be more like 2000.

Abbott pledged the army in a speech in January but when the Coalition released its costings after the budget in May, funding had been cut dramatically.

The green army of 18- to 25-year-olds would earn a training wage of $300 a week to help community and church groups with environmental projects.

Detailed costings reveal that the program would not start until next financial year - 2011-12 - with only $50 million.

      In 2012-13 its funding would double to $100 million - 8000 six-month places, or a 4000-strong army.

The next federal election will be due in 2013 but if the Coalition wins a second time it plans to spend $250 million in the 2013-14 financial year, bringing the army to 20,000 six-month places or a 10,000-strong force.

The next year, 2014-15, it would finally reach 30,000 six-month places, or the 15,000-strong ''standing force'' of the Opposition Leader's vision.

The Coalition has already begun quietly announcing some of the projects the green army would tackle.

Hunt said the Coalition had had long discussions with environmental groups about the program and had decided ''not to repeat mistakes of the past by starting the program too fast''.

He said exact numbers in the army at any time would depend on whether projects overlapped, but he said the plan met ''Tony Abbott's commitment''.

If you as a major party are so very confident about your economic credentials and offended by the waste spending of the Federal Gov of the day, why are you placing paid advertising into google against every candidate in opposition to your party policy so that this website comes up as number one ie Emma Kate Rose - Green rep in Griffith or Bob Katter - Ind for Kennedy? Let me guess... they have better policy and direction and you thought it best to associate the LNP with them.

Large potential for it to back fire. People will either think straight off that it's a 'dirty' bit of political tactics and confirm why they have been put off the LNP OR they will search around your site for anyone of the miss-represented candidate LNP paid google links only to find out they have been pointed to the wrong place and then likely to decide that it's a 'dirty' bit of political tactics. Either way - what a waste of LNP funds? Scary to think you might get on a roll with this country's tax!!

One thing is for sure, the Labor party and their host of diehard supporters are always good for one thing! INCREASE TAXES! Whenever there's a problem all they know is raising taxes as their only solution in fact even if they don't have a problem they're always concocting new ways of taxing people. How wrong can you get? Won't they ever learn that raising taxes is the most negative thing you can do to a country. All you do is reduce people's buying power and consequently people buy less goods and make less investments. Businesses then put people out of work, government revenues fall and loads more people have to be paid for on welfare. As a general rule this is a blueprint for economic disaster and the people who are most hurt are not the rich, but the most vulnerable people in our community. Labor then brings in its only other solution they ever use, ie. BORROW MONEY TO PAY FOR THEIR DEBTS. That's why virtually every Labor government has left office with the country just about bankrupt and this one will be no different. Pity help us if they get back for another term.

Just a question for people to consider and perhaps the Press or ask the PM. With the result likely to be very close and Labor & the PM not ending any where near what the party hoped for, the party and MPs will not be very happy with the PMs performance. If Labor win, will only be 1 or 2 seats maj. Feeling very vulnerable the labor MPs will unlikely support Gillard as PM. Who will replace Gillard as PM when the parliament next sits? Will Swan be PM? Modify story Line, Gillard haunted by ghost of Leaders Past & Future. Australia's shorted PM, regardless of election result.

We have had a terrible wasted opportunity for the environment; they had substantial plans but failed to achieve any thing of substance. Government is not easy, it has to take a lot of work and a lot of dealing but most of all commitment and that is where this Gov has fallen down. If you can't get what you want you get as close as you can and then you see it through, you can always come back to it again to try and change or improve something to get more of what you want. You do not just walk away, that is not a decision for the government that is up to the nation to decide. There were some minor things achieved but the expected standard for our Gov should be much higher. Regardless of who you supported at the last election and what programs you agreed with or not you expect the Gov to work hard and make the most of the opportunities that are available for Aust. That this was not done has been the greatest disappointment about the last government and an error our nation can not afford or allow to be repeated. We must have much better government.

      NBN another waste
      NBN
The PM launched the NBN this morning. But the justification for such expenditure was not discussed in detail. A government spending tax payers’ money should at least justify as to who needs, it why do they need it, where is it needed and what would be the best economical speed at which this could be delivered. Technology is changing so fast that the current technology is more than likely would be obsolete when it is delivered. Also we need to know what the users should be charged to make the investment economically worthwhile.
Like any investment in a commercial service the government should provide a well documented justification for the investment.

There is no point comparing ourselves with small countries like Singapore S. Korea and Japan or other countries in Europe where the area is so small that they could install the infrastructure at a fraction of the cost compared to ours. The US which has the same problem of the area as our country is grappling with this problem. Recent studies indicate that the average speed in the US is less than 6 Mbps. Some of the cities have speeds of up to 30 to 50 Mbps. So why do we need 100 Mbps throughout 93% of the country?

Re: The Economy.......If you invested money with a bank 3 years ago, and expected a return of say, 6% interest P.A., and then at the end of the 3 years discovered that your investment had completely dissolved and the bank was asking you to further invest your own money to support their financial failure, what would you do??? Would you re-hire your financial advisor or banker, I think not.

So using the same analogy, would you re-hire Labor after 3 years of blowing the national surplus and placing this nation into debt, to fund their theory laden, detail barren policies for the next 3 years???

I know I won't. Let's get this simple, but relevant message out strongly in this last week of the campaign. The media is focusing too much on Rudd's poor health and what about that pathetic `Obama' comment Gillard made at their campaign launch today. Real Julia?? You've got to be kidding, one day she stabs Rudd in the back, then the polls drop, so she pretends to make up with Rudd, in an obvious attempt to win the marginal seats in Qld.

And what about Swan, he who was 100% behind Rudd for his entire PM-ship, until when asked on the day of Gillard taking over as PM.......`Mr Swan, when did you decide to back Julia Gillard to lead the country, instead of Kevin Rudd?" Swan replies, "Well, last night."

      Nothing like loyalty is there!

Go hard in the last week Tony and good luck.

Tony and his crew seem to think more like accountants than techs. That's fine, just remember to play to your strengths... but don't forget who you're trying to speak to.

I hope the below feedback on the NBN vs NBC will help everyone understand exactly what it is they're voting on.

(This is a little long, but I think you will find it well worth the read. Feel free to forward it on to your friends & family if you agree with what I have written here)

      ---------------------------------------------
HOW TO JUSTIFY DITCHING THE NBN
      ---------------------------------------------

I am a computer technician and IT Business owner, so I understand the need for faster and more reliable internet connections around Australia, but as a small business, I also understand the pressure that overwhelming debt can leave - be it on a person, a family, a business, state, or nation. The NBN is just not a cost effective and financially viable option, and this is how you need to explain it...

$43.5 Billion dollars is a number. A big number, but a number that doesn't really mean anything to most of us. Let's put it into perspective...

By last December’s estimates, there are 22,420,851 people in Australia. This means that the NBN - funded by the government, funded by those people - will cost every man, woman, and child 1940 dollars and 16 cents before it has even been turned on.

If we were to take into account only those Australians earning an income, all 11,212,300 of them... then the math starts to look even worse.

Every person in Australia that draws a wage will need to personally contribute 3879 dollars and 67 cents to make the NBN a reality. Scared yet? Well, it gets worse...

When the cost of living goes up, so does the demand for higher wages to help cover those costs. As wages increase, the cost of running a business increases. To balance for this, companies put up their prices - which then put further strains on the cost of living (see where this is heading?).

      "But wait, there's more!"

Of the working population in Australia, how many of these are directly or indirectly employed by the government itself? Council employees, construction workers, Librarians, Teachers, soldiers, hospital workers, and doctors... all of these people are funded by the government - the same government that would then need to turn around and take nearly $4000 away from those every day Australians.

Just as the Industry will need to increase wages (and prices) to account for these additional expenses, so will the government need to increase its waves for Government employees (our Army doesn't pay for itself). These additional expenses to the government result in more national debt and have to be passed on in... you guessed it... more taxes. Where does that leave us? Well, repeating what happened 2 paragraphs ago, that’s where.

Every debt needs to be repaid, and a National Debt is no different, and we’re the ones left holding the bill.

The cost of the NBN might be $43 billion on the bottom of Labour's spread sheets, but in reality it could end up costing Australians three times that amount.

The idea of an NBN may sound solid in theory, but in reality, it could very well send this country bankrupt - and that is a risk not worth taking.

      ---------------
By adopting the Coalition’s NBC, we can break the cost down into a more manageable pieces, get coverage to where it is most needed, and then when our the nation's debt is repaid and we're back in the black - THEN we can look at taking the next stage of extending the NBC to a full Nation-wide Fibre To The Premise (FTTP) network.

There is a difference between saying 'no' and 'not yet'. By fixing the debt first, it puts everyone in a better position to then use this new infrastructure to take the upgrade to the final stages, thus delivering blistering speed without destroying the very economy it's trying to help.
      ---------------

A vote for Labour is a vote for more debt, more tax, and having to hear 'moving forward' 50 times a day for the next 4 years – that is assuming Labour even let’s her stay in for the whole four years. Who knows, maybe Swan want’s a go in the big chair?

A vote for Liberal means less waste, less debt, less tax, and probably having a national holiday declared to celebrate the fact that Abbot will no longer have enough free time to run around in budgie smugglers EVER AGAIN...

      ... A win for all votes I think :-)

lol, the government subsudise something which it can't afford in the first place? With what money?

Abbot really needs to drill home exactly why this NBN is such a bad idea - help people understand that the country simply does not have the money to pay for it, and how much it will really cost each and every person in this country.

There's 48 hours until people start voting - they need to use that time to get the message out:

It's not what you want - it's what you need. It's not how much you can borrow but how much you can afford to pay back.

We have got to get rid of Julia & her $43b broadband white elephant.

When they announced that policy we only had 3G wireless technology; now we have 4G.

By the time 8 yrs passes and the NBN is complete it will have cost $80b knowing labour. In 8 years time wireless technology will no doubt be better anyway.

With iPhones, iPads, Blackberry's & laptops who want to be limited to plugging into a cable anyway?

The NBN is overkill for the vast majority of users, so why have it? Not everybody wants to drive a V8 on an auto barn (metaphorically speaking) - give us choice for goodness sakes!!!

Free enterprise will always find better, more cost effective solutions than big government!

The job of an opposition is to keep the Govt of the day accountable, and not to threaten destruction before parliament has even sat. What happened to all of the conciliatory comments before the election. Can't the Liberal party get it through it's head that they did not achieve Govt. The more Mr Abbott & Co carry own, the less likely they are to win any future election, let alone a bi- election. I am a so called swinging voter, but the campaign of both major parties appalled me. So, Mr Abbott, don't come the raw prawn with the Australian people with all your self righteous comments. You are not the government, and at this time, you are not even the alternative government. I have to laugh at all the BS being written at the moment about Tony trying to wreck this government. He made an agreement with a supposed "independent" although it has now become quite clear that there was never anything independent about him. He tried to get a cabinet position in the labour government so to suggest that any "deal" negotiated with somebody claiming to be something he is so obviously not, does not deserve any consideration. It is also very obvious that Julia Gillard must be really happy with the current state of the parties, it gives her a chance to introduce all sorts of taxes and penalties on the Australian people and blame it on the greens and the independent. I am wondering if she is suggesting that if you make a pact with the devil and do things that are not popular if you can wash your hands of any blame?

Just be positive. Come up with great solutions and be confident that they can stand alone, without pouring negativity all over everything you say. You don't have to complain about Labor in every single thing you write. It's fatiguing for us to have to read that, and frankly it has the opposite effect.

I was really enjoying reading the Coalition Climate policy document until it turned into nothing more than a petty anti-Labor diatribe.

Just be positive. You probably would have won the election by a landslide if you were simply positive and true.

true Australians are now treated like second class citizens in our own country, whilst asylum seekers and immigrants are pushed to the front of the queue for housing, jobs and benefits, costing us millions of dollars.
despite the huge sacrif...ice of thousands of our war heroes to keep our counrty free and independant, immigrants are pouring in and bringing their culture with them, taking away our right to rule ourselves and decide our own laws.
Towns and cities all over this beautiful country now resemble parts of africa, asia and many other nationalities. Australin people have become a minority across the country as a whole. Almost every week now, a brave soldier is brought back in a coffin. Our boys and girls are sent to fight a war that has nothing to do with Australia or Australian interests. Despite the illegal war in Afghanistan, Muslim extremism is flourishing on the streets of Australia.
What would our war heroes think if they could see Australia today? They fought to keep Australia free, sovereign and independant. they didnt fight for multiculturalism, political correctness, or to see our country flooded with foreigners and our own people made into second hand citizens.
We need to vote and do something now, before we are outvoted!!!

I consider it laughable but despicable that Wayne Swan rages about the high salaries and other aspects of bank charges, and many other incidents relating to overcharging of goods and services, after all, over the last five years, he is the one who is responsible for this being able to happen, he and the party have determined the conditions which allow the high salaries and the high cost of goods and services, and when the Liberal party or any other party is in power, they are responsible. They cannot blame “Global” for every fault that the party comes up with, they have to be man enough – or women – and have the integrity and decency to accept their own blame, when it applies. Unfortunately, all parties have mentally retarded fanatics who are unable to see or accept the truth about the party they have hooked their brain to. Maybe some day we will get people with integrity and intelligence as a party into parliament.

I am reminded of a situation in the Canadian upper house in the 70's when during a late night sitting an opposition member called for a quorum. The bells were rung and they rang for weeks, could this be used to stymie the NBN. Is ther a difference between divisional bells and bells for a quorum in that not everyone must answer a quorum bell, worth a try.

I have a few ideas, the first one in relation to the stimulus which is now obviously a little late but could have been so much more efficient in the first place. When my family first arrived in Australia, you could borrow money for a home loan and the home load was fixed until it was repaid. If the government instead of wasting billions of dollars building unnecessary infrastructure had made loans available through the reserve bank to first home buyers on a fixed, low interest rate basis, they would have been able to supply the required "stimulus" without actually throwing away billions of taxpayers money as all this money would have been repaid. They could have imposed strict conditions on availability to make sure developers did not load the prices, and if these houses were sold at any time the money would have had to be repaid and the "special conditions" would have ended. If this had been fixed at 4-5%, most potential new home buyers would have taken advantage of it, and the necessary stimulus created with the borrowers making sure they were not getting ripped off.
The other thing that occurs to me is that in all this talk of man made climate change, if we accept that man can create climate change, why dont we look at how we can change the climate for good instead of bad? One suggestion would be a huge project to build a canal through the middle of Australia from North to South and having this fill a large inland sea, with all the dirt dug out being used to created a reasonable mountain range in the Alice Springs area. Properly positioned, the inland sea would temper the climate in that part of Australia, create evaporation which if the sea was put on the right side of the mountain range would be pushed up by prevailing winds and create relief rainfall on the other side. Also if the mountain could be made around the 4,000 metre level, snow would form on the top. YOu could then have snow skiing at the top, water skiing at the bottom and a canal with tourist boats similar to those on the Rhine sailing between the top end and the coast of South Australia. I am sure that given the right amount of thought and capital this project could succeed.

I fully support your comments Tony. I would, however, like to see a reduction in the amount of Foreign Aid that Labor has been contributing on behalf of the Australian taxpayer.........A billion here, a few million elsewhere, when anyone with any degree of financial ability would understand that we have needed to keep something in the bank for disasters etc. of our own. I am sure that the vast majority of the electorate are compassionate but would like to know that we have budgeted for our own people who are footing the bill.
Same goes with Illegal Immigrants. Just doesn't seem right that the Australian Taxpayer opens their wallets without knowing that these people will work and contribute to our society. I don't mind paying tax as long as I know it will be used fairly and in Australia's best interest. I object to supporting people who expect a free ride.

We had even begun having assemblies under our COLA ( covered outside learning area) because the original hall could fit only a tiny portion of the school. I also know that one school scored a new library, and that can hardly be called a bad cause. Yes, it could of been managed better, but, let's face it, it boosted local businesses and it help schools.

From what I have seen over the last forty years, and the recent remarks on this web, It is fairly obvious from the remarks of those fanatics of the liberal party, that their only vision is the destruction of the labor party, and the only vision of those of the labor party, is to destroy the liberal party, and I hope they both succeed, I doubt that the other parties have enough intelligence to become a proper source of government, and maybe somebody intelligent will start a party with integrity and intelligence to step in and run the country intelligently, ensuring that our Australian manufacturing and farming industries have priority, and not destroyed with the export mining reciprocal imports of those cheap clothing and other goods that the stores are depending on so dearly. Sure we have fanatics who don't even know what is needed to obtain a good economy, away from those recessions that both parties have driven our country into over the last thirty or so years, Paul Keating, John Howard, Peter Costello and Wayne Swan. If you are going to blame any of the guilty people, you have to blame all responsible without favour, except if you are a fanatic and corrupt of course.

The campaign strategist need a bit of a shakedown. I spoke to a lot of people and the general reason they voted labor in the previous election is because labor said they were going to do something. Most of the Liberal advertisements were all anti-labor (as they should be) with no promises. Slanderous advertising is rookie boo boo. Seriously who comes up with these promotion plans. Currently there is such massive displeasure with labor there is no need to bad mouth its merely a waste of money telling people what they already now. Personally the response to the current question about how the Liberal Party will fund the current proposal of tax cuts if elected should simply be:

      1. No Carbon Tax - No need for rebates.

      2. Reduce National Debt by scalling back/stopping current government programs funded internationally via bonds etc, such as NBN and preventing future waste such as Labour's mismanagement of Social Housing Scheme, The Schools Program, Insulation Scheme, Solar Scheme, Malaysian Processing of Boat People.

      3. Then present clearly those policies which can produce a difference for this country: a) Increasing SME capabilities to grow the foundation of the nation and to reduce dependancy on a 2 speed economy, b) Increase skills, not just mining related to grow the capabilities of the Nation, c) Invest in R&D to develop our 'smarts', d) Incentivise the development of value added mining activities, so we gain the benefits of the value add, not the '$140/tonne for the unprocessed dirt."

I have a radical suggestion. I propose that ALL members of both houses, but especially House of Reps, fall in line with current Australian workplaces. It should be easy, all that needs to happen is for
      1. ALL elected representatives speak to each other WITHOUT SHOUTING, BULLYING, INSULTS and the usual garbage that passes for question time and debate.
      2. Get on with the business of government in the way the rest of us get on with our paid employment. You have been entrusted with serious business.

The manner in which politicians conduct themselves is a disgrace, this behaviour does not happen any other workplace. No wonder the younger generations are so disinterested. Personally, because political parties have no real policy, I have decided to vote according to standards of behaviour. Good idea I say - it may just catch on. I think it is time politicians realized just how badly they are seen to behave. Anyone else would be fired if they emulated some of our politicians in parliament.

AK Myrtus , Is certainly throwing the ball back at the obsessive fanatic wimps. Too many people have quickly forgotten why the Liberal Party lost the 2007 election, and the memory of its poor attacks against the Australian workers has certainly diminished in their mind, if they have one. There is no argument that the Labor party is totally devoid of concern for the Australian industries and their workers, Just the same as the Liberal. I agree with him that the Politicians, who have been in Parliament, should never have been allowed in there in the first place, and those who have been getting in should have to survive on the unemployment income, or show that they can hold onto a real job where they have to show their true value. To join any party, it seems that all you have to do is to sign a promise “that you will agree with the decisions of the majority”. Why the Majority, they are not and never ever have been the most intelligent of any community, and looking at the apparent level of intelligence of both the majority of the remarks on this site, and that of those in the political parties, they have proved my point.

I'm finding amongst my peers that people are becoming less interested in politics because they don't have a strong leader whom they can follow, and they are giving up. Tony, Saying is not doing, and the Liberal party has been in power many times over the last fifty years, and, like the Labor party, only says what it is “going to do”, but never does it. Certainly with the growing population the objective has to be to look ahead at least twenty years, but both parties look “ahead” to what conditions were ten years ago and generally blame the other party. There are too many faults that have been carried out by the Liberal Party as well as those by Labor and it would be wonderful if both thought carefully before flying in to any more projects that are going to harm the population particularly our workers, you haven’t given any thought to them yet, only what harm you can do to Labor.

I have never voted Labor, but the coalitions pathetic strategy to reduce emissions means that labor has one more vote come the next GE. Take a hard line - no more brown coal, and more emissions reduction technology - not one or the other.

I'm all for the carbon tax, OF COURSE it will cost us more - that's the point - how else can people be encouraged to reduce emissions - we can't rely on ethics, or slightly reducing dirty emissions from dirty technology.

Reducing emissions will cost jobs, but it will also create new ones - the solar industry is booming. Increasing demand for clean energy would, I imagine, create even more jobs. We don't live in a static employment market - Liberal used to understand this. Let Labor worry about the pensioners - sometimes we have to look toward the future, like Liberal tried to do with workplace reform.

Tell me why your plan is better Mr Abbott, and don't say its because jobs will be cut - there is a whole lot more at steak.

the people want economic management, they don't want to be told what papers to read, how to think or what to do on their days off, what they want is australia back on track and people feeling safe and secure.

If the parties were as intelligent as you people think, why do they keep driving the economy down into a recession, it has happened four or five times over the last twenty years.

The recession happens when the top tax is lowered far enough to allow people with uncontrolled incomes to increase their incomes causing higher prices of goods and services and creating bad conditions for many workers and those on a pension.
The high tax should be tempered with a Zero tax on about $30,000 today to suit the treasurer’s requirement of that 30% of GDP.
The resources exporting has further expanded the problem, and the reciprocal imports are brought in cheaper and sold cheaper and this is destroying our own manufacturing industries and the income for our workers. The unemployment figure is a farce, because the unemployment figure is only counted on those who have no permanent employment, and certainly does count those who can only get two or three days work a week, a problem which has been happening more and more over the last thirty years.

It is a fact that what bad economy is made by the Federal Government, also affects the State government, and they make bad decisions in attempting to correct the situation, I suggest that this is what has happened with Anna Bligh, and it would also have happened to NLP, LNP or any other party that was in power in any state.

It is good that this ineffectual government is so low in the opinion polls BUT if you as the Oppositioin start thinking and acting like you only have to turn up to win the next electioin then you are in for a shock.
I am a committed coalition voter [Liberal] but there has to be some policies that give the swinging voter a reason to vote for you. The fact that Labor is so bad is not enough. Slow down on the negativity and get some positive policies out there. Some more forward constructive thinking would be a great way to keep ahead of the Government

As far as I am concerned, there is and always has been only one way to ensure a fair way to restore the economy to an intelligent and successful position, and that is to first get a treasurer who is not so blocked in the brain that he ignores good advice and decency and all the members of the parties obey and honour their constitution, and certainly, not another Lawyer.
The second requisite is that a top personal tax of approximately 70% is applied along with an approximately $30,000 income with zero tax, as was proved by Harold Holt sixty years ago. I realise that when a political party is first formed, they organise a constitution to plan for a successful accomplishment of their project. As you can see, no party demands that members sign any agreement with referral to honouring any party constitution, and I see no effort being made by the party as a whole of doing anything to improve the conditions for the wage earners as should be a main part of the constitution and was part of both the Liberal and Labor parties constitutions previously, and this is why you are not getting the expected support.
Further contempt is due to the “upper class, the Lawyers” of the party, and because of the choice of the particular group chosen for the remuneration tribunal and then giving them a clear choice of presenting the government with excessive unjustified increases which they will claim “they had nothing to do with”. With the destruction impacted on the economy, over the last forty years, I find very hard to find any excuse to do other then, to condemn all parties for allowing high salaries and perks to destroy. I blame Wayne Swan for our main problems at this time and the liberal party treasurer when they have been in power, and you can take this right back to 1970.

The average price of homes in Australia today is $435,000 (seven times the annual workers wage of $65,000) and yet in 1977 the average price was $31,000 (twice the average annual workers wage of $15,000). They were relatively cheaper in the 1950-1970 era. It is hoped that the next government will get intelligent and reverse that trend and bring decency back to the working community.

I just want to put on the record that I am only 26, and have only ever voted either Liberal or National. If I lived in QLD this would probably broaden to Liberal, National, or Katter lol. But after this current government (which is an absolute embarrassment after the "Howard years"), it would take some extreme miracle for me to ever think about voting Labor! There, I said it :)

The sleazy rodents who have infiltrated our parliament and were able to get other rodents to be accepted to be their tribunal and determine an unjustified, unearned, unwarranted, extra high increase to parliamentarian salaries. It will be a further degeneration to our country. Unfortunately although it was started and set up by the Labor party, when it was put into cabinet, Tony and all the members of the parties have grabbed it as if they really deserved it. What a dirty joke, it just shows that the only people who go for parliament are just there for the money. I wish we could get honest people into parliament, don’t you? The people offering to be a member of parliament, are supposed to be representative of the population, not an over- representative of a certain section, which is what we have got now, and dishonest as well. There should be a genuine representation, not an over-representation of a certain faction, not the number of Lawyers that we have been having. Are they also in control of whose names are presented to be put on the ballot paper?

Most of the people voting at a political election think only of the political party they are voting for, not of the member, which seems to be what the members choose as their “ultimate”?
When a party is going to register to be allowed to be placed on the ballot paper, they have to present a constitution of the party. That constitution should be used in the recruitment of all members, they should have to sign that they will honour and obey it so there is a definite plan made that everybody can rely on what the actions of the party will be, and any person who breaks the rules of that constitution can be taken to court and fined for breach of contract or if it is bad enough, jailed.
The previous governments and parties have been framed over those of those of the UK, and they all have the same failures, failure to look after the working variety of the country, with drastic affects. In 1946 and later, the tax in the UK was such that if the personal income rose above 8,000 pounds, a tax of 146.1% applied. In the US in 1944-45 the top personal tax was 94% and in 1942-43 it was 88%. It was reduced down to 35% in the US in 2003 and remains there, allowing excessive salaries up to $US 100 million and more, while causing thousands or millions of unemployment and lots and lots of crime, and that is what you will find in all the countries with a low top tax rate, high unemployment and a high crime rate. In every case, when the top tax has been raised, the income at which the tax becomes applicable should have been raised also, but was not.

Politicians create situations that cause crime, and they are dishonest also

WE want people in Parliament who have integrity and intelligence, and loyalty to Australia and her people, not money grabbers.

Christianity is looking after those who need help, not to deny them and make things harder for them, and certainly not to keep pushing more wealth into those who are already saturated. Are there any Christians in Parliament, or even in any of the parties?
