Greg lives in Mt Martha and is married to Paula, a surgical nurse. They celebrated the birth of their first child, Poppy, in April 2005.
Greg was born in Frankston, raised in Mornington, and attended school at Mornington Primary and The Peninsula School. He obtained a Bachelor of Law with First Class Honours from Melbourne University before completing a Masters in International Relations at Yale University in the United States as a Fulbright Scholar. While at University, Greg was involved in remedial literacy teaching both in Australia and the United States.
He worked at the United Nations Centre for Human Rights, contributing to the development of health and educational programs for those in the developing world. Greg was Senior Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Alexander Downer where he had responsibility for South East Asia, defence, human rights, trade and international law and he counts the development of an international initiative for the removal of land mines as his most important contribution.
Greg worked as the Associate to the Chief Justice of the Federal Court, was Australia's Chief Electoral Observer in Cambodia in 1998 and was an Engagement Manager with McKinsey and Co, where he was responsible for managing projects that delivered greater efficiencies and improved services.
Greg is a keen sportsman and has completed seven running marathons including the Frankston to Melbourne three times, and has competed in the Red Cross Murray River Marathon. Greg played in two premiership-winning sides with the Mt Eliza Cricket Club, and also played with the South Mornington Football Club.
In 2002 he was appointed as President of the Australian Fulbright Association and was selected as one of 100 Global Leaders for Tomorrow for 2003 by the World Economic Forum.
In 2004, Greg was appointed the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Environment and Heritage. In 2007, Greg was appointed the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
